Where might I want to reenforce? Thinking mainly where the straps go.

Also I’ve seen that some cut a piece out right in front - a notch - center of the chest along the bottom. This is more accurate correct and anyone have a good photo?

How much of this bottom lip should I keep on the front? I’m thinking to keep all of it. Looks clean.

Any suggestions so far?

Hey man, in addition to reinforcing the areas where the straps insert, you will definitely want to reinforce the two places I've highlighted in orange on the attached image.

The top and bottom of the center ridge are the two weakest parts of the chest armor and the most likely to crack. You can heat up some scrap ABS and bend it to fit, then affix it with devcon plastic weld.

WRT trimming the bottom lip, the WTF chest is bigger than some of the other ones out there, so you'll have to see how it looks once you trim the bottom return edge. Def don't trim the whole bottom lip off, since that's a sure way to stress the center ridge on the armor.

For the small triangle cut, it's not a great photo, but you can kinda see it here. Be warned, the triangle cut can lead to cracking if you don't reinforce it properly, so be careful!

Great notes. Thank you!

Yeah first rule: save all your scraps!

On the back I left this tab so I can heat it up and bend it over. Then cut the slot for the strap.

I want to trim the tank so there are tabs on the top and sides to heat up and bend over. That would give me me an edge to glue to the back piece and help add strength I think.

The black line is where I think I can create a tab.

For the sides of the armor, you can do that. Personally, I think it would be easier to just user Devcon to glue a second, reinforcing, piece of ABS to the inside. It'd be a lot less work than messing with the iron/heat gun.

As for gluing the tank, the originals weren't actually glued on. They were actually just attached with a single loop of 1/2" elastic. You can see in a lot of photos that there were significant gaps between the tank and the back plate!

Now, for additional stability, a lot of scouts use velcro on the inside to attach the tank. This also allows you to remove it, if need be.

Here's how mine is set up:

That would be a lot easier! And screen accurate. Yeah looking at screenshots like that made me realize don’t overthink anything. They sure didn’t. Ha!

Did a bit of weathering on my new arm pieces. Using the Studio Creations forearm pieces as Jeff had an extra pair laying around and much better than the actual included WTF parts.

What about adding a little padding under chest plate to help take off some of the tension/ add support?

Had thought about using some of the 2†green foam and painting it flat black before attaching to the back of that chest. Any houghts on that?

Great thread. I just bought a used scout and have to redo some of the pieces to make them an inch or two bigger. I’ve read this tread a few times and took away some good stuff. I appreciate it.

Awesome dude! Well that’s why I’m doing it. I did the same thing. Bought a used kit and modified it. There are a bunch of great threads. We’re here to help so post away and ask questions.

I know I do!

We’ve all done that. There are many people on this board who will chip in with great info. Where are you based?

I just got approved so there’s plenty more to learn!

Is there any rule about the belt not being white? I want my belt to go all the way around and be the same height as the plastic part. So I got the same 100% cotton as I’ll use for the drop boxes to make a perfect belt.

It doesn’t have to be white does it?

If you look at the actual scout armor, you can see that the fabric portion of the belt doesn't perfectly match the width of the hard plastic version, so the size difference is accurate.

The Lancer specifications are very specific about the back of the belt --

"[belt is secured w]ith a 50mm (2") white nylon webbing as a belt secured to each end of the hard belt with a single silver rivet."

Furthermore, if you're using off white drop boxes, the only other parts that should be off white are the side straps, drop box straps, and the shoulder bridges.

I know the size difference may look weird, but it's accurately weird!

They do look a little tall, but I think it's mostly the obtuse angle between the side and bottom edges that's making it look longer. Have you tried them on while wearing your flak vest yet? How's it look then?

I rounded the edges and will be doing a better fitting this week to try to finish up this chest.
