Lawless Scout Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Well picked up an armor set, gloves, balaclava, pouches. Just need a cummerbund, vest, suit and a pair of boots. But I’m on my way and seriously can’t sleep just thinking about getting it done. When I get things dialed in more I’ll make sure to ask for feedback on how everything is looking. This is just me trying stuff on with a black shirt. 1

Lawless Scout Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 Some feedback on helmet alignment please. Been trying to get the lines as clean as possible. Does this look ok and approvable? Thank you.
Chopper Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 This is one of the tougher parts of lining up the scout helmet -- the right side of your helmet looks good. On the left side, your visor is aligned properly, but are you able to try and better align the faceplate with the bottom edge of the helmet?
Lawless Scout Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 but are you able to try and better align the faceplate with the bottom edge of the helmet? It’s bothering me as well. The only thing I can do since it was already glued together is keep shaving some of the back part so if lines up better. I just don’t want to remove too much and have the line of the rear messed up too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Chopper Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Yeah, fixing that is going to be really tricky. Be careful, since, as you mentioned, you don't want to trim too much. Here's what I'd do (and maybe you've already done this) -- take out the visor bolts for now. Try to line up the helmet and visor edges as best you can, then tape the visor into place. You can let us take a look at this point if you want. Are the bolt holes still aligned? If not, you can put a piece of styrene behind the original holes and then you can redrill. 1

Removed bolts, aligned as best I could, taped down etc. I even broke the weld on snout and filled in hole on right side and re-drilled so it lined up better (think it worked!) and been shaving as much of the rounded part so it sits as best as I can against dome. Might have to do same on left so it aligns as I can’t get the weld off to move snout. Great suggestions and really appreciate the help.
Lawless Scout Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 Absolutely approvable. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lawless Scout Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 Think I got it as close as I’m going to get. 1
Lawless Scout Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 How about the visor width? Can I trim this up a bit more? Should I? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Retrofire Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 A good way to "see" where you'll need to trim is to take a sharp pencil and trace around the visor. It should provide a line around where you can cut. It look like you still have a bit more trimming to do there and the pencil line will help you. Put it in them post up another pic so we can see what you got left. 1
Chopper Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 What Retro said. Also, your faceplate/dome alignment looks good. Solid work there.
Lawless Scout Posted March 21, 2018 Author Posted March 21, 2018 This is what I was thinking to clean up and trim a bit more around the visor area. The black if removed I think would help even out the visor look and be a little more even. Thoughts?
Retrofire Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 That’s the ticket. Now you can see the trim line. Go with shallow cuts to control your lines and take it slow. Remember it’s easy to remove the material but really hard to put it back on! Once you get the cuts made smooth them over with some 220 grit. 1

Lawless Scout Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 So guess I don’t need to do anything but I feel the belt should over lap the opposite way than it was put together. It would give the better impression looking at it from the front that it was one solid piece. Any suggestions about redoing this or just let it be? I thought I might be able to either shave it down a bit and blend with some ABS and paint OR cut it and use some plastic to secure from behind then fill in line/ sand/ paint. Does that make sense?
Retrofire Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Your helmet looks much better good job with the trimming! As for the belt most of them were assembled using that same technique. A majority of them came in three pieces and it wasn’t until recently that makers started producing the one piece. You are fine for basic if you don’t want to tinker with it. If you do I would use the ABS method to fill in the overlap then sand and paint. Looks like you have some weathering going on there so that should hide the mod pretty well without having to repaint the whole belt.

I think I can get it close anyway.
Lawless Scout Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 Question on the boot holster. Is there a regulation height? For instance in the photos below I marked where I was thinking of trimming to for a smaller cleaner look. Is it based on how the ec-17 sit? Meaning trim just above where the barrel sits at the bottom for instance?
Chopper Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 There's no specific length stipulated. I recommend that you look at images of the screen used holsters and try to approximate the length for your boot. Just eyeballing your marks, I'd say that you need to leave more on the top portion, but the bottom mark looks ok. 1
