It is with a heavy heart and the deepest regret that I have to report the sudden and unexpected passing of our Executive Officer, my dear friend... brother, Jim Griffin.

Jim sadly passed away on Monday due to diabetic complications.

Jim was a generous and kind man always willing to help and spent countless hours selflessly doing all those behind the scenes web-master stuff for both us here on the Pathfinders and over on our sister Detachment, Spec Ops. His kindness and dedication were an inspiration to us all.

His devotion to these detachments without any thought or reward for himself is without equal and not only shall the Biker Scout Network and Spec Ops be lesser dimmed places by his passing, but the world in general too.

Jim is truly a great man and we shall feel his loss immensely.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to Jim’s wife, Darleen, his family and friends. We can only share in their grief and devastation at this terrible news.

You have been taken too early but your legacy shall live on forever in our hearts. You will be remembered.

Rest in Peace brother.

Truly truly gutted and speechless, Jim was an amazing genuinely passionate guy. Certainly a right hand man when I ran this detachment for all those years, always there willing to help.

This saddens me greatly and is terrible news, Jim was a gentleman and a great person he was always there for me and helped me when rewriting the CRL for the Shoretrooper he always made time for you no matter what. The Legion will be a lesser place without him, much love to his family. Rest in Peace brother.

Really devastating news. Like he did for so many others, Jim was instrumental in helping me with my build, chiming in constantly on my WIP thread and steering me in the right direction, I couldn't have made it without his tireless help. He is who I think of when I tell everyone how incredible the Pathfinders detachment is ---- just kind, supportive, helpful, and so friendly. I'm very, very sad to learn he's no longer with us. Rest in peace, my friend.

you know when you get that sick sense that something is wrong? well, this confirms that feeling i had.

pathfinders have lost a great troop!

RIP Jim thanks for all you have done with the 501st and the good chats we shared. You will be missed "brother"!

OMG..i am gutted right now... Jim was one of the first people i was friendly with on BSN and that friendship grew over they years. One of the nicest guys i knew from BSN and would do anything to help out a fellow trooper... he will be greatly greatly missed. Ride that speederbike through the clouds with the same passion you showed us all here brother. R.I.P. Buckets off.

Jim was a regular presence on these bs.n forums, always helpful and a great supporter. He will be missed around here. RIP

I never had the opportunity to meet him in person. Anyone have any scouting pics to share?

While I didn't have the opportunities to troop with Jim as much as I wanted, I always enjoyed seeing him at cons when I was in Texas.

And as always, Jim was the kind of guy that always had a kind word or made you feel welcome. The world is a lot less brighter now.

And I will always cherish our friendship.

Until we meet again, rest in peace brother.

Jim was my Obi-wan. He was one of the reasons I am in the Legion and why I’m a Biker Scout. My heart is truly broken with this sad news. I just don’t have words to express how I feel about this. His friendship and love for this community will be greatly missed. Bucket off to you my dear brother....

This is some of the hardest news I have ever heard since being a member of the 501st and a proud member of both Detachments. Jim is one of the most encouraging people I knew and this seriously breaks my heart. He was and always will be a huge inspiration to me.

These are from his exact words:

“You have been a big help over the years at Spec Ops. And you always show your SO pride. I admire that about you and I'm proud to be with you in Spec Ops.â€

When he told me this, I thought I could jump over the moon in my armor. He is one of the reasons I try to troop about 75 events a year and why I say Spec Ops or nothing. I am going to miss him so very much. He wanted me to finish my shoretrooper and join him over here in Pathfinders. He is and will always be such an amazing inspiration to me and others. I am happy that I was able to meet him in person. Both Detachments loose a great man, a great friend, and a great trooper.

Buckets off for you Jim.

To think I was just talking with him a week ago, this is so sudden and sad. He was one of the people there from the beginning of my scout Trooper journey, always encouraging and giving advice. He will be greatly missed in this community. Rest In Peace brother.

Much respect, Jim. You’ll be missed greatly. Thank you for your time and dedication. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for being so selfless and for never saying no to a kid that had a dream. I had hoped to meet you one day, but I still will hold out hope that will on the battlefield above. You were an inspiration and a great man.

If anyone is taking up any donations or anything for his family... please let me know.

Utterly speechless. Just chatted with him a few days ago. Jim was always kind and polite and so helpful teaching others the ropes.
