The Mandalorian: Biker Scout WIP
bobafett4ever replied to bobafett4ever's topic in Scout Trooper: "The Mandalorian" WIP
Yep, sure did. The first rivet we tried didn't rivet right, for better terms... so then we tried to drill it out, but it got so hot it melted the abs. So, we devcon glued to the back armor and under the backpack, some spare ABS, so we could re-revit. We used aluminum washers behind the rivets both times. All other rivets we did took... but for some reason this one didn't like. The black greeble covers it all up so I think we're good as it cant' be seen unless you're right up on top of it looking in between the armor and backpack. -

Thanks, Dennis. Anyone else have any thoughts or comments? Last night I got my backpack attached. The rivet didn't work the first time and cracked the ABS, and I made the mistake of trying to drill it out which melted more ABS, so after a repair job, I got it. Sadly, this time, the Rivet didn't cut all the way down, so will have to file it.... but I don't think there is much of a gap, so I just need to add the red line and I think it's good. And, unless anyone sees anything off, I think I'm ready to weather the rest of the parts. I know I need to paint the helmet screws gray too... but I think that's it. Thanks for any feedback. -

Hello Pathfinders. As I've never weathered anything before, I saw a YouTube video and tried his method. Please let me know if this is good and I can continue with weathering the rest of the parts. I left the knee pads alone, and in the pic, so you could see the others against the white ABS for reference. I used Umber Brown acrylic paint and splotched it on, let sit for 5-10 mins, then wiped it off. Thanks for any feedback or tips. Items left to do: 1. Attach holster to boot 2. Attach backpack to back plate 3. Weather everything else -
Not to change the topic, but since this isn't final yet, I wanted to bring up the weathering. The draft says medium to heavy, but to me, they look like light weathering. IMHO, they are just barely weathered... Maybe just enough so you can see they're stationed on a sandy planet, but I don't think anywhere near the weathering the sand troopers have. Thoughts? https://imgur.com/6BUAPca

SDCC Mandalorian Scout Reference
bobafett4ever replied to Whiskey's topic in Scout Trooper: "The Mandalorian" HQ
From the SDCC pic, it look like on the front of the holster, instead of just putting 5 slits in for venting, it appears they cut another strip of ABS, cut the openings in that, and then pasted it onto the holster. What do you guys think? I can't seem to find a clear pic from the show, so only going by the pics above. In the grande scheme of things, is this something that will matter or should, for now, we just cut the 6 slits into the holster? -
One thing I noticed, and maybe it's already been mentioned, is that the tank on the back has the wording of having the black line detail in it... but we can see that only one of the troopers has it, the other has no decals on it. Also, looking at the below, I feel that the "screen" or whatever you'd call the mic on the snout, isn't also painted the same color as the snout.

The Mandalorian: Biker Scout WIP

A few things I'm finding out about the SC kit for anyone in the future looking to get. 1. It only comes with the green visor lens, not black. They don't even have black, so you'll have to get a black one. 2. Their schematics say to use 2 rivets attaching the ABS belt to the webbing, but it should only be 1. I found this out the hard way, and had to fill in the wholes and redo. Their schematics aren't 100% 501st accurate. 3. SC kit doesn't include any clips to attach the thermal to your belt. He only includes 2 zip ties... which I have no idea how that's supposed to work, but it doesn't, so I'll have to find someone selling belt clips. 4. I bought the Imperial Surplus headband and it doesn't fit this helmet. I even tried to trim it down, on the sites and top, as a few others listed, but no dice. For my head, it just doesn't fit inside the crown of the helmet... and if I force it to, I can't comfortably fit my head inside the helmet and close the visor all the way. Next up, I have to repair the backpack as the rivet I tried to put in the top of the backpack to the armor didn't rivet correctly and I tried to remove it and it melted through the ABS... at least it can be repaired and will be hidden, so no one will know it's a patch job. Last will be attaching the holster to the boot. Then, on to weathering! -
Can I ask, was your visor already bent/flexed, or was it flexible and you just glued it in and it stayed flexed in that position?

2 questions for you, Christina. The first is on the Mando Scouts, is the T greeble on the arms left black, or did they paint it the same gray as the snout and decals? Some photos look like maybe they actually painted it gray? Could just be lighting though. Also, same question for the from "screen" part of the snout... did they fill that in gray too? Again, some photos look like they may have painted it in gray. Last question that I'm just curious about... is the color used for the gray decal on the chest and belt boxes the same gray color used on the snout? I'm just getting ready to paint mine and wasn't sure... what 'shade' of gray did you use?

The Mandalorian: Biker Scout WIP

So I sewed some straps and wanted to see if I'm on the right path or if anyone sees anything glaringly wrong. First pass https://imgur.com/a/i7SsDlM Sorry.. doing this from my phone so not sure how to get the pics to show, only the link. Dyed all the soft white parts in Earl Gray tea. 4 back in 20 cups of water... left in parts for 45 seconds... pouches for 15 minutes. -
Help Needed to Buy a Scout Helmet Visor
bobafett4ever replied to bobafett4ever's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Thanks. If I went that route... how hard is it to cut? I'm not sure why SC sends a green visor if the RotJ scout needs a black one too? LOL. -
Hello. I'm making the Mando Scout and my SC kit came with a green visor... but the draft CRL is stating it needs to be black. Can anyone recommend where to get a visor? My preference would be pre-cut as I have no idea how I'd cut it, but I'm in the States so maybe that's limited? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Chris

Hello. While watching some videos on assembling the TB helmet, one person said to put a lacquer over the helmet stickers so they don't peel off or get scrapped off. Have any of you done that and if so, what did you use? I used some lacquer on my tote box and it turned yellow and looked bad, IMHO. I sure don't to put something on my helmet that will either discolor it or look like I added something to cover the stickers. Thanks for any input.

Quick question... As I have my SC kit now and 220 grit sandpaper, is there any special technique or tip to this? SC cut it pretty great, but a few little areas here and there where the sandpaper will help it to be smooth. I just wanted to know before I started to sandpaper it, was there anything specific like sand in one certain direction or anything like that. Also, when I Dremel the eye part out, anything there such as make the cut from the inside outward, or anything like that? SC marked where to cut, so I just assume cut along that line and sandpaper it down after? Thanks!

@TKZombie made some great points in the below thread. Can we confirm if updates need to be made to the cummberbund/pouches? I am just at the point of building this, and had received the same that Christina had (the cummerbund from @StephTrooper) so wanted to confirm if we'll all be needing to make these corrections?

Oh sorry I should have included the punchline. The 3M tape is still going strong. It was the ABS cement side that came undone. Oh wow... now that is interesting. Hmmm... I'm not hard on my stuff, and I like the idea of 3M tape... I'd be curious if anyone has done a helmet with 3M. I guess I could always try it and if it doesn't hold up, do the epoxy latter on?
-
The SC kit came with 'bolts' to connect the front of the helmet to the rest. Do you know if those are OK and/or good for Lancer (thinking long term) or should I order the kit offered Kevin here... In addition, if I was to order it, should I go a head and get the headband as well? In my Navy Trooper and AT-ST helmet, I just put some padding, but maybe the headband is better for a full/closed helmet? Thanks again for any info here.

Excellent... I really appreciate the feedback. With regards to that then, is it possible to use the E6000 or epoxy and not have to repaint the helmet? I'm just trying to think how to assemble this SC helmet without having to paint it. Again, I'm new to this, so sorry if it should have been obvious to me up front

Question for you pros out there... I saw a YouTube video that recommended to use 3M double sided tape to hold the Helmet together instead of glue. Have any of you done that and is that a good option, or do you recommend just glue/epoxy it? It's an SC helmet, so the dome is one piece, not 2 separate pieces.
