Yes, it's an ABS faceplate - an extremely nice pull, with lots of very sharp detail. Really nice finish on the whole helmet - they really are beautiful. Dan

I mentioned in Cheesewhoopy's Moncal armor build thread that I had a couple of Moncal's new helmets in hand (along with the armor sets as well). I thought I'd post some pics of that helmet here to not derail Cheesewhoopy's build thread. In each of the side-by-side images here, the helmet on the left is Moncal and the helmet on the right is RS. If I had other helmets I'd line them up as well, but perhaps someone can chop apart my images here and combine with others. All the side-by-side shots were taken from about 40 feet away with a 400mm lens (except for the top views, which were from about 10 or 12 feet) so that close-in lens distortion is reduced, giving a nice flat plan view in each case. I aligned the images on the visor bolts. So everything is to scale here, with only minor alignment variations from setting the helmets on the display stand. Front Left Rear Top Here's an image of the interior of the helmet along with a cross-eye stereo pair as a bonus if you can do that. Interior Interior (stereo) Looking forward to getting the corresponding armor sets built up. I'll keep one set nice and parade clean and weather up the other set for the Endor trooping look. I'm holding the third (unpainted) Moncal helmet in reserve for some future, TBD costume idea. Dan

Excellent - that helps a lot, thanks! It was the forward attach point that was throwing me, the part where you have the L-shaped bit of scrap ABS glued. That now makes perfect sense. On to it... :-) Dan

I'm finally getting on to working this area of my Strider armor kit - the holster. I'm still not completely clear on the geometry of the overall assembly of this thing. Can someone post a few images from various angles of their assembled holsters? How is the outer guard piece held in place - is it glued at various points? Thanks! Dan

I wouldn't say 'upend', but update or amend (see what I did there? ) in light of this new information would allow us to use these really nice hero blasters when applying. I've got one of the Polymer Armory heros and it's really nice - it'd be a shame to have to buy yet another version just to be cleared through for Lancer if we now have some good evidence that the hero version matches well what appeared on screen... To be fair, I don't think those photos of the EFX helmet above are giving a good representation of the proportions. The photographer used a poor choice of lens (wide angle) and distance from the subject (too close). I'll bet that a longer lens and more distance would give a more true 'plan view', a bit more as shown on the packaging photo. Looking forward to Grendel_Blitz's comparison photos when his arrives... Great tips - thanks much for sharing these! Still waiting on goods to be delivered and assembling everything so these are very helpful during the build stage; the boot holster tip is one I wouldn't have thought of but will definitely put in place when my boots arrive. Dan

Looking really nice! I've yet to even start trimming my armor but am hoping to get to it soon. Couple things: (1) Can you expand a bit on how you did the pin striping on the back tank? I've been wondering how I'm going to approach that so it all comes out nice and straight. (2) There is a very minor asymmetry to the top greeblie for the forearm piece (i.e., there are some tiny details on that piece that are not symmetrically placed) - is there a good reference pic for how that was mounted on the production costumes? (3) I like the looks of your tank mounting setup - very crisp and tidy. I wonder, though, about the apparent 'permanent' nature of the riveted attach points at either end. Stretched elastic tends to break down and lose its 'tightness' after a while and you might find that your tank gets unacceptably loose and floppy over time. Will it be easy to remove the attachment points and reinstall with new elastic? Very nice work! Hoping to catch up to you soon... Dan

Okay, so I've returned from travel and was able to get at my copy of the book. Unfortunately, I don't think the one photo of the boot is all that helpful. The resolution and exposure of the image reproduced in the book doesn't really show the pattern on the side of the sole too well. We've seen better photos in other places. The mention that no horizontal ridges are visible is probably just due to the fact that the leather cover looks to have sagged a bit in the rear here, covering over the pattern we see in other, better photos. But here it is anyway... Dan

I haven't had the chance to lay eyes on mine yet, but is it pretty obvious where the trim lines are going to be? I'm anxious to see how the trimming is going to go and what tools (e.g., Dremel, shears/snips, etc.) are going to make the job easiest... Dan

Yes, I just got that book for Christmas. I shipped it back home to myself and will be back with it next Monday. I'll get any new/useful boot images that are in there up here as soon as I can... Dan
