Closer look at my belt boxes. This time around they include features such as the curved back to each box, the correct roof shape on the medium box and a more slim profile.
-
Having had another look at the shoulder buckles I have decided to revise my original versions and make another set for my kit. These are a work in progress. Update: I am going to scrap this scratch build of the buckles. Scroll down for the latest progress regarding the shoulder buckles.

Thank you. I will hopefully be able to offer them for sale soon.

Test paint on my first pair of medium boxes. Black primer then brown base coat. Using a masking fluid I masked off some small areas to remain brown. Sahara Beige has been sprayed over the top in an even coat. Using various implements such as wire wool, scourers, sandpaper etc I have rubbed and scuffed back the beige to try and replicate the weathering seen on the screen used suits. Black and brown washes have also been used to dirty up the boxes.

I am very pleased with the casting of the medium belt boxes. They feature the curved backs and the roof on top. Will paint them up soon and add them to my upgraded belt.

Making casts of my new medium belt boxes today. Looking forward to getting my belt reassembled with these updated and more accurate boxes.

Helmet Painting and Weathering by Paul Prentice
mr paul replied to TheDon's topic in Shoretrooper Armor/Helmet
There is a link posted at the top by The Don sending you over to FISD. There is a start to finish paint tutorial on how I painted and weathered my BSP Shoretrooper Helmet. -
You can see better in this image how I have refrained from weathering inside the ear vents and in the recesses of the eyes. Similar to the helmets seen at Celebration Europe.

Helmet Painting and Weathering by Paul Prentice

I have recently updated my paint tutorial and made some revisions to my bucket. Here is my Shoretrooper helmet with the updated paint app and weathering. -
The BSP helmet has a too narrow edge to the brim of the forehead on the right side. It tapers towards the end. The recast also has this present. I corrected this on my helmet so it matches the right hand side. Image taken from my tutorial.

The recasted helmet fails to add details where BSP failed to include them. The gutters under the eyes are not present. The black lower eyelids are not present. The black band behind the forehead does not step out as it should. The recasted helmet replicates the inaccuracy of the BSP. If you are going to make a helmet this accurate why repeat the same mistakes as another sculptor. These finer details are now well known about the shore trooper helmet. I may also dare to add that whoever painted the recasted helmet followed my paint tutorial as the exact methods I used are employed here to achieve the end finish. As you can see from the images above the 2 helmets are identical almost down to the paint application.

My helmet from Back Stage Props Recasted helmet.
-
I have messaged Back Stage Props about the seller and they have confirmed it is their helmet. They are currently trying to identify the buyer who may have purchased the helmet from them to recast. They only have his address details to go from and no name. I may well message command. I apologise I do not know the correct procedure for reporting this kind of thing. Thank you.

BSP have produced a very particular looking helmet including a moulded lens piece. I am very familiar with this helmet as I have one, and have posted a paint tutorial for it on forums. Their helmet is 3d printed and cast in resin producing the sharpest looking helmet on the market to date. You could not get this detail in a sculpted helmet cast in fibreglass. If you look at his listing there is no mention of how it was produced. I have messaged him through his Facebook page calling him out on it and I have been blocked with no response. I do not know of any artists who work in secret on projects like this then suddenly bring them to market. The helmet in his eBay pictures is cast from resin. This is not the fibre glass helmet you would receive if you bought it. A 3rd generation cast from the original made of fibreglass would be a lot softer and some areas of detail would be problematic.....total scumbag he also has just started selling fibreglass Biker Scout buckets so maybe you guys can work out if they are also recasts. I am not an expert on those helmets as i suspect you folk may be.
