  1. I know of a guy in my garrison who glued a black felt lining instead of using paint, what do I do about the circular washers on either side of the visor? Do I paint them grey?
  2. This is my SC helmet as it sat out of the box. I love this thing, but I do want to make it 501st worthy. I know I have to cut out the ear decals and add felt lining inside, but I don't actually see any helmet tutorials on the pathfinder site, only helmet comparisons.
  3. Thanks for the ideas guys! I appreciate it!
  4. It's not a big deal, but it's not something I'm enthusiastic about redoing, glad it won't take as long this time now that I know what I am doing. I also wanted to make this thread as a warning to those buying the Studio Creations kit to follow the online instructions for everything and not the printed and shipped directions.
  5. The rivets are placed around the belt to connect the pieces together, as I found out, and the cuts in the belt are quite a bit above where they're supposed to be. I don't know why the directions said to do it this way, when their online directions said differently (As I checked later), but I am in the process of getting the finer details fixed so I can get registered with my garrison. This was from my first belt attempt back in 2015 before the premiere of episode 7. It works, but I have to keep the belt held together with white duct tape. Used the wrong rivets, and used rivets where there shouldn't have been any.
  6. I will post pictures tomorrow, I don't have the time tonight, but they'll be available in the morning
  7. Trouble with repainting is that I don't know of a color that would match the white ABS plastic. Does it need to match exact? (Sorry for the double post, my internet has been acting up.)
  8. So initially I made the mistake of following the Studio Creations printed instructions that came with the kit. It showed to make rivet holes in the belt, and to cut through the ABS plastic right above where the "V" is on the center portion of the belt. I do not know if SC has updated their physical instructions since the fall of 2015, but I was wondering how to patch up the holes, and the gaps where the canvas belt is supposed to loop through on the front. Is it possible? Or do I need to order another belt? (Thank the maker I know how to redo it, if I need to replace the belt.)
  9. Though now I'm looking at Aker Amplifiers on amazon, on a separate note... >.>
  10. I would like to at least put some kind of flexible backing on the boxes with a flap over it, but if it is too much of a hassle, which looking at what materials I have, I think I'd better leave it alone.
  11. maybe if I use a thicker material like canvas and make it slightly ribbed? Hmm...
  12. I was wondering if there are other scouts out there that have put some sort of backing on their hip boxes for making them functional, for carrying things? Like wallets, keys, phones, or maybe extra prop bits, doodads, or even some extra supplies in case of breaks during trooping? If I put backing behind the boxes and a pouch flap cover would that be okay?
  13. I think actually what I am going to do, is go ahead as planned, and use what rivets I have, and just make a new belt later on, I actually messed up on the belt itself, it will be good enough for the premiere but I actually made a blatant error due to misreading directions. But this is helpful! For my first time making this, I think I have actually done a pretty solid job, but next time I'll be more 501st ready lol.

  15. well good news, I drilled the holes for the rivets, bad news, I have the wrong type of 5/32 rivets lol. Wish I knew. Looks like I am making a trip to the store.
  16. I guess I'm not following what the difference is...I hate the idea that my biker scout uniform will be ground to a halt because I got the wrong rivets... :/
  17. hmm...well darn...
  18. It's a dritz eyelet kit, 5/32 says it works with medium to heavy fabrics, so I assume it means webbing and leather.
  19. hmm...the back of the packaging said they work with all fabrics and leathers...
  20. I have clothing rivets, it's the washers I am worried about.
  21. Does this look right? I put the rivet and the rivet with the washer through it side by side for comparison.
  22. Will any washers do?
  23. i have not drilled anything yet
  24. kk sadly the fabric store I went to did not have 1/18 rivets, only 5/32 rivets. is that going to be an issue going a half mil larger when the rivet is already bigger than suggested?
  25. When I start riveting, do I want to drill holes as large as the rivets I am using? Or is the rule of thumb the same as drilling with wood, drill smaller than the rivets I am using? I am afraid to crack the ABS if I use a drill size smaller than the rivets.
