  1. I'm actually glad we found this out and added it to the lancer specs - I have a problem with persistent slippage of my shoulder bells, leaving a bigger gap than there should be, and after my last troop decided I really needed some sort of attachment between chest/back and shoulder bells. This kills two birds with one stone!
  2. Can I ask about the zip ties on the shoulder bells? I've not even heard of this detail before. How is it supposed to go?
  3. Wow! Great find!
  4. My armour is HIPS. What others have said is correct - it has no real flex to it and is somewhat brittle. However, there are positives to it. It is naturally shinier than ABS from what I've seen, and despite occasionally scraping against walls, furniture and other abrasives while trooping, it seems not to scratch up as easily. I can't be sure, but I think it is slightly less dense and so will weigh less for equivalent thickness. My helmet wasn't in any way translucent - I painted it because of needing to use filler, but it would have served fine in its natural state. If you want to know what HIPS is like - it's what they make the salad trays in fridges out of, as far as I can tell.
  5. Welcome, look forward to trooping with you in the future. Stay sharp!
  6. I would point out that from those armour sets, the Chef belt is the ONLY one with an accurate central V.
  7. I have a Chef helmet, and I find that my regular glasses don't fit under it, but my smaller spare pair fit fine. Although I'm OK with contacts, so after my first troop wearing glasses, I have just been using those. I didn't have any fogging issues with the glasses.
  8. Looks like I'm on sanitation duty for the week!
  9. Is this a good time to revisit the separate/attached bund/cod debate? Ow, stop hitting me and throwing things!
  10. I second Chef, his work is very good.
  11. This sounds a lot like what they have said before. Cynical? Me?
  12. How much are these jokers charging for these absent helmets?
  13. I use an Aker voice amplifier, along with the headset mike it came with. I put the amp in the left pouch, thread the wire up through a small hole in the back of the pouch up under the chest armour and inside the flight suit. It works a treat.
  14. Children wouldn't think that, and they're the target audience.
  15. There's always the possibility of modifying it. The waist of the flight suit is never seen, because it's entirely covered by the cummerbund. Cut it in half, sew in a strip of material between the halves, et voila - a longer torso! Although if it's a zip-up, this won't work, I just realised (mine has poppers).
  16. Here's a solution: trick rivet. Attach the elastic inside using some other method. Cut the head off a rivet and glue it on the outside as close to the border as you like. No hole required. It will look identical to the correct method of attachment. I did this effect on the rivet at the bottom of my tank.
  17. Yes, the Battlefront scouts are beyond filthy!
  18. Thanks guys. I think the best thing is to post up a picture of my blaster and let the armourers have a look!
  19. If you see the actual screen used helmets in real life, the weathering isn't very much less than that. I think it looks pretty good.
  20. To be honest, two instances is not statistically valid to call it a pattern! I wasn't totally serious. Anyway, the snowtroopers in The Force Awakens didn't actually do anything apart from stand around like donkeys.
  21. I thought Altmann helmets were no longer produced - are they making them again now? I thought there were only 500 or so in the world. My helmet is a CC, I thoroughly recommend it if you like a challenging build with a very good looking helmet at the end of it.
  22. This is from the 501st CRL page: The scope has lens discs cut into the scope for a more realistic appearance. No decals representing cross hairs or similar. I'm not sure what it means by "lens discs" - can anyone explain what it means? Does it mean actual glass lenses?
  23. To be fair, you're going to get somewhat biased replies in this forum...
  24. I don't think there's any commercially available models of this, the few who have made them are scratch built. I think somewhere on here Marcel has a WIP thread of the one he made. They're quite a lot of work to get right.
  25. It was never my intention to suggest we should change the way we make our costumes, because the way we make them matches what's on screen. Sure, I'd be curious to hear from an original source, simply out of curiosity.
