Wow, that really felt like a big group hug. Thanks for all of your confidence boosters. Ill give it a go.

My boots are posing the greatest problem for me right now. I cannot afford $150+ to commission a pair and I am not super confident in my skills to make the boots. I have seen several posts here condemning (viscerally) store bought "rubber" boots. I found these on cabelas. If the texturing was sanded off and the top of the boot cut, would these be remotely passable? http://images.cabelas.com/is/image/cabelas/s7_830981_007_01?rgn=0,0,1868,2000&scl=5.2631578947368425&fmt=jpeg&id=1IZe3n-E-aOZMcxwV95L2D If not, can someone post a picture of what white rainboots look like with the armor? I find it hard to imagine that they look THAT bad.

Oops! Thanks for spotting that John. I have already pulled some of the padding out of the top and may do more once I see how it fits with the balaclava/suit

I used the decals. I want to cut the holes but I want to pace myself. I tried to do that but the faceplate, visor and helmet were all almost invisibly warped in different directions so when I lined them up it seemed fine until I bolted them/glued them etc. As of now, I have glued the visor onto the faceplate as neatly and tightly as possible and will hold onto hope that the rest of the helmet will de-warp into how it should look. Ive also sanded down the edges of the blinders so that they match up as closely as possible to the faceplate.
-
Here's what I've got as of now. Things I need to address still: Get bolts more flushed, clean up glue residue and try and get it a little less crooked. For whatever reason, one side of the faceplate is pushing off of the helmet more than the other so I had to put velcro straps inside the mask and helmet to keep it down... which is sort of nice but a little bit of a pain in the ass. Thoughts on progress?
-
The trouble is that if I line them up exactly, the facemask and visor dont line up on the sides and would require significantly more cutting to get it to work. Ill try and even it all out. I had quite a few problems having the helmet actually fit together.
-
Terry, unfortunately that is not a pencil line. That is where the visor ends and the facemask underneath. That was with only a quick clean up sand. Thanks for your input on the boots

Additionally, Here is a top-down on the bucket Should I clean up the edge more? The more I clean it up the more i cut off but I it doesnt look neat enough

Thanks everyone!! The utility belt that I got from SC had a crooked center box (by about 1cm) and he was super awesome enough to send me a replacement belt so I am waiting on pretty much that and my jumpsuit from Chunk and then I will be able to assemble. I haven't even begun to worry about the Boots. I honestly am not sure how I am going to be able to do them and I cant afford to commission someone. Can anyone vouch for a boot build's simplicity?

HI GUYS! I got my SC armor in the mail a day or so ago and I decided to get started and I couldnt post here due to the outtage. So heres where I am: here is pre-assembly of the facemask with the painted snout and clips installed. Spent HOURS on cutting out the lens hole. "Final" build of the bucket I will post more pictures for your inspection(s) Armor all laid out. Still working on the hump, I am following Panda trooper's build thread ideas for mounting itwith a L piece of plastic as you can see below Actually you cant really see it. Its a piece of plastic I cut out of a cd stack cover. Bells cut to Pandatrooper's specs that look fantastic. Waiting on soft parts before I put velcro and elastic together. QUESTIONS: Is it okay for there to be a gap between the bucket top and the visor/faceplate from above? Are the helmet bolts that SC provides good for 501st? I painted them Matte grey. Is the lens SC provides adequate? GAH I AM SO HAPPY I JUST PUT ON THE HELMET AND I AM STOKED

I was creeping around the forums (as usual) and I found a post by Donovan that never got much attention. This video goes into massive detail about the scout helmets with some great up-close shots and explanation of parts.

I think it looks good! I plan on weathering mine too. The only thing I would say is that the knee guards look way more weathered than the rest. I would clean out the grooves just a little bit.

http://www.ebay.com/...=item5af3537688 Is THIS the Rubies helmet that I hear everyone talking about? Because this is what comes up when I search for it. It also has a ~$200.00 price tag. I have never seen something more grotesquely frightening.

Pandatrooper's SC Biker Scout build
Rainfly replied to Pandatrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
With your harness setup, how do the shoulder straps connect the front and back plates? Where did you put the snaps? Is the harness there so that the plate junctions are elevated over your shoulders? I am seriously in awe of this build. -
I know, which is why I forked out the money.

Just got the last pair of Mediums. You guys are way too good at making me spend money.

It would be relatively easy to sew two more ribs in and stitch the 'V' in right? Suede fingers wouldnt be too much of a problem. Or am I fooling myself?
-
You are correct! I did mean the shoulder bell. But since you brought it up, why do I see pictures of scouts with the pauldron?

Hey everyone, Any wise words from Pathfinders/Lancers about the opinions on original decals on the armor? For example, is it sacrilege to say, paint a single stripe down one of the shoulder pauldrons? My thinking is thus: According to canon, Biker Scouts are fiercely egotistical and consider themselves superior in almost every way to other military components. They are also deployed in relatively small squads, in relative isolation, for extended periods of time. With that in mind, one would assume that they would develop fierce loyalty to their squad mates. Now, if I put myself in their shoes, I would have some sort of insignia for my specific squad and I would put it on my helmet, shoulder plate or back hump. This is all the late night thoughts and giddyness that I have for getting my scout armor but I would like to hear your thoughts, even if they totally shoot me down. TL;DR: Can I paint or stick an original sticker design onto my armor without getting ridiculed or shunned. Cheers! Alex

Wow, thanks everyone for all the suggestions and advice. I am really growing to truly appreciate this community. Armor has been ordered!!

Thanks everyone! I am super psyched to start building this. I think I will wait on picking up the heatgun and really just see how everything works/fits out of the box and slowly start cleaning it up and tweaking. I am just about to order the riding suit. Griffin-X, what size head do you have? =p I am a size 7 (22" head) and I have heard that SC's helmets are a bit snug. bjsavage7, good idea. Ill probably try that before heating the armor, I dont want to screw it up the first time around!!
-
Pandatrooper, Thank you for the amazing build thread, your work is definitely some to aspire to. I do not have a heat gun, nor have I ever worked with one. How do you know how far to warp the chest piece? Also, fantastic video tutorial, I am glad I asked about this!! Donovan, thanks for the link! I think I might actually end up going with that. When I start my own build should I start a thread to ask questions or is there a thread that has been made for that?

Hey everyone! I've crept around the forums for a while now and I have finally decided to buy the SC armor kit including the helmet, it seems like the best quality for the price. I haven't actually ordered yet because I am still getting all that I want in one place first which leads me to my questions. 1. Do you know of any techniques to add the effect of armor wear? Similar to this: img_0635.jpg 2. Does anyone know of a voice modulator that works particularly well? 3. I am 6'2" and slender build (155lb) is there anything I should be particularly aware of in terms of armor kit choice? 4. Lastly, anyone that has purchased the SC kit before, did you run into any noob problems that I can avoid? Thanks all! Alex
