As far as the collar, I could probably figure it out with some trial and error, but has anyone done a tutorial on how to redo the collar & make a mandarin collar? Might save time if I can learn from others' work!

Turns out we will need shims, not for the crack along the ear which wasn't as bad as I originally thought, but for gaps on either side between the front and back pieces, toward the bottom. Unfortunately we can't get anything to stick. It was hard enough getting the main pieces to stick together (using ABS weld) but getting a small shim to fit along a small edge is impossible. ABS weld was recommended elsewhere on this forum, but is there something else we should be using besides ABS weld? It just doesn't seem to hold that well, even using clamps. Thanks much! - Jen

Hello - the KS kit arrived, and the plastic is much thinner than I expected. Also, never having trimmed or built anything before, it's tough to know where the trim lines are, and not obvious from the tutorial posted here given that not all pieces are shown in terms of where exactly the trim lines are. Also it seems that because the plastic is so thin, it's going to be really prone to breaking. Already have a crack by the ear where the hole was trimmed. So... Does anyone have a depiction of trim lines on a KS kit they'd be willing to share? Also, what to do about the crack along the ear? Will Bondo work or is it too thin/small an area?

Hi - I am definitely a fan of Lady Sew for Us's work that I've seen, but unfortunately she currently has about an 8-month backlog! And I had planned for this to be my summer project that I would like to be ready to go by August.... So I would certainly be interested in upgrading to a better-quality suit/vest later. But for now (especially given that I'm already planning to trim/assemble the helmet & armor and at least give it a shot to make the boots and cummerbund) I would like to know what modifications (if any) would be required to the suit/vest shown on that link to make them 501st approved, or if they are approvable as-is. Thanks much!

Back to the original post linking to the flightsuit with vest attached... if I bought one like it, would it require any modifications or would it be approvable as-is? I see the coveralls are way cheaper, but since I have zero sewing experience (and since I'm planning to try to make the bund/boots myself), I'd like to at least be able to get the flightsuit/vest already done.

Thanks! Good idea on the cotton gloves underneath. I think my SA's are the Mediums; I seem to recall he was out of the smalls at the time!

I ordered a pair of SA gloves a few months ago in the smallest size they offer, but they are still huge on me. My hands are about 3 inches across at the knuckle. Any advice? Other vendors? Or will I need to just do a conversion on regular gloves?

Looking for MC snout greeblie to modify KS helmet
JenB replied to JenB's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Thank you! -
I took the plunge and ordered my KS helmet kit. I also put myself on the list for a set of 3M bolts when another run is made, but now I want to get hold of one of the accurate MC snouts. In the past, my attempts to reach MC to get isolated pieces haven't worked, so I was wondering if there is a secondary source for this snout piece. I heard a rumor that there might be... Thanks! Jen

Hello all - I know some of the same vendors that do white armor also do the black shadow scout armor. I'm specifically looking for helmet sources. I know KS does (or at least did) do one, but is there anyone else? Would appreciate a PM if you don't want to post - thanks!

Good to know; these sound like minor modifications. However, just curious - are the MC snout and different bolts required for 501st approval? The reason I ask is because if I get the helmet assembled from KS, and if I order the snout from MC and it takes a few months to get it, can I still submit for approval with the KS helmet as is? Or are there some of these modifications that are required for 501st approval?

I have a follow-up question on the KS helmets. I'm thinking of buying one assembled, but if I do that, how easy/hard is it to replace the bolts on it? Would it basically require taking the thing apart such that I may as well have built it myself in the first place? Any other important issues that I'd need to fix? Someone mentioned the nose - does the entire nose need to be redone, or does it just need the different decals (ie from Trooperbay)? I'd just be looking at 501st for now rather than Lancer (maybe someday!)

Thanks for the advice! At this point I'm thinking I'd like to try the kit, but would probably need to wait till summer when I will have more time!

Hi - I'm looking at doing a Scout costume, but would first like to know - does the KS helmet work out best (in terms of fit, etc) when bought finished, or is it generally ready to go if bought assembled/finished? Thanks! Jen
