  1. Im going to cast some in foam for my bikerchick armor build... No guarentees on something i dont have complete though. I am very excited about my bikerchick KT armor build!! Any update on the kit Chick? Hows it going? Cant wait!!
  2. Yeah, wear and tear, or just incorpotated into the weathering or here and there. I dont think ill incorporate grey as a primary part of the camo job, just peaking out from behind some brown or green.
  3. Yep, some of the shoulders in the screen caps have grey too. Not a ton but im pretty sure there are bits mixed in.
  4. Soo.... This is just for color not for shape (this was done with the widest needle and tip, thats why there is no shape to the camo edges... they are just blobs). I like the tan.... its been blended with the color around it a bit. The green is too dark, and the brown is too green without enough red in it. The grey needs to be lighter and i need show more of it. Overall this was a successful failure. Ill keep narrowing down the colours till I have it just right.
  5. Hey gang, I stopped at my local hobby shop yesterday and picked up some tamiya acrylic model paints. I like everything about tamiya acrylics but the price. I spent a goodly amount of time in the back of the shop and in the natural light of the front window comparing the paint colors to the screenshots. Ill post up progress and list my color choices when i get home from work tonight. My airbrush is out of commission for today but a long soak in ammonia glass cleaner should fix it right up. Cant wait to have a go at the screen camo. Having another good look at the pics. Ill spray a 2 tone dark and light grey base then cover (mostly) with tan khaki, then the green and brown on top with some charcoal or pastel weathering. edit: The colours Ill try first are 1. dark sea grey (which is very light) the reveal base coat where its light 2. dark grey for the reveal base coat where its dark 3. deck tan which is very light without much yellow in it. I May have to tint it a touch (2nd layer) 4. Khaki Drab for the brown which I may tint w some plain brown if its not right (or change colors entirely) 5. field grey.... which is green. again... just an experimental color. The airbrush is soaking in windex now. lets see what works and what doesnt.
  6. Id suggest the based on the screen caps, the crls should keep the paint jobs flat (matte). Nothing on them looks the least bit shiny ( to me anyway). I think a decision will, at the end of the day, have to be made about the basic look of the paintjobs or we are going to looks awefully 2 tone. The screen just doest look like the 3d render troopers.
  7. Fiberglass should sit and cure and outgas for a while before painting. Thats probably all it was, just painted a bit too soon.
  8. Ok Thanks Chilled. I do get it.. the same discussions were had at clonetroopers years ago I beleive. They finally went with a `no metal` stance. I think the biggest reason for that decision was not screen evidence, altough to be fair i dont think theres any silver showing on any grunt clones, but EU references to the armor being composed of a `plastoid`instead of Mando Iron Beskar stuff (like the Jango and Boba). But since no silver is evident in the screenshots, it seems to me to be an unneccessary step at best. If we are aiming to improve the CRL I am seriously thinking that we shouldnt be using silver as a mian part of our revealed or topical weathering. I have to say... I think that the KT has a lot more to do with the Clones than the TB`s or any other category. This is my .02 on metal coloring with regard to the CRL anyway... other members takes on this?
  9. Hey guys- for the topic of the camo pattern for the CRL: Im wondering why we are using silver paint as a base. I dont see any gleaming silver in the screenshots anywhere. The other clones decided long ago that metal peeking through the weatherig was a big no-no. I do think that Gree may be the exception to the rule though Im not a Gree costumer.. but Im just not seeing anything that justifies the use of metal colors on this armor. Can someone please clarify this for me please?
  10. Hey Scout... I do just happen to have an unfinished MLC here. If you PM me you email ill take a coulple pics with my iphone for you and email them.... the internet on my computer is really slow to upload pics.
  11. Thats awesome! Who woulda thought the inside out creamsicle look would look so cool. I think you are holding the drop boxes at about the right height. I think the puuches look a bit big though in proportion to everything else. Thanks for the chuckle... But i think it looks cool.
  12. Its bigger than sc. Theres a comparison on the threads somewhere in the helmet section. A hadhat liner will fit though it doesnt come with one.
  13. Taupe, Oatmeal, Mocha. can we photoshop to cut that color out and make a bigger sample to get it in our heads better what its supposed to look like? I own photoshop an i think it can do stuff like that, but i cant even put a pic of me on a sw background. Please? Someone?
  14. Looking strictly at the few hidef screenshots posted... especially since i cant find my copy of Ep3 (some sw fanboy i am). It looks to me that.. in most but not all cases, the drop-pouches and rear vertical pouches are a lighter background material. Right now Im thinking that lighting cant be to blame unless the lighting was very unrealisitically inconsistent. Thats very possible in 'the grid' Im sure. Ill have to find a copy of the blueray and freeze fram a lot to confirm. Ill let you know what I come up with unless someone beats me to it, nudge nudge. You can see what i mean in the 100% screen grabs thread kindly started by DR.
  15. PS. RESPECT to all those who are putting in time on making this costume better. "WE NEED TO BECOME BETTER"!!..... thats an imported joke from CTN. Not the respect part- thats in ernest..... The WNTBB part.
  16. Yes Brother, I have another interpretation. Right now its based on 1 HiDef screengrab posted in the KT100%Screengrab thread. It is the top picture- of the trooper on the Kashyykk "guillitine" platform. It is the best closeup screen grab that i have seen. To me i see green that matches the green and brown on the 'combat bra'. the colors are mashed together a bit with not a lot of clearly defined edges. It looks like green and brown moss growing on a greyish green background.... or camo in other words. There are true screengrabs from further away that lean MUCH more toward a solid grey.... but they are further away, where detail is lost and lighting comes into play the most. Up close, my take on it is that it is not a solid color or 2 tone, but camo, incorporating a background color (greyish green, seafoam green whathaveyou) darker green, and brown. I dont think colors that are clearly green and brown would be used to create shadow. If you zoom the picure in a bit, they are large groups of pixels, clearly in large(ish) clumps of like colour. Please take a close look and let hear what people think. I definately think that solid tan, solid grey, or solid light gray are less accurate options, unless of course there is some way to explain the closeup. Lighting for me works to modify a color at long range.... but at short range it would have to be blindingly bright, or next to dark to reallllllly modify the true look of something.
  17. The BDUs are ONLY a good option because they are currently available to all. And to be fair- they do look quite good. The blocky darker portion looks similar to the canadian disruptive pattern, but the darker blocks of color are smaller and greater in number. Fabric paints easily with products that are pretty readily available. Im going to the fabric shop soon. I think i will buy a nice fabric in the nice rich dark brown, then tint dark brown fabric paint with black, dilute it a bit and feed it to the airbrush. The dark blocky camo pattern will be masked with tape and spray painted. It should be washable, though yearly touch ups may be required. Ill cut an old pair of combat pants to make a pattern. This i think will yield soft top and bottom parts that are as accurate as can be. Also, since im going fabric shopping, ive been looking at the screen caps (only....so far) closely looking at the cumberbund. I see green in there. Sorry. I look at the camo armor combat bra, then i look at the bund, then back. As many times as i do, im not seeing grey. Oh there are hues of grey in there but there is green! It looks like moss growing on the bund but its there..... There are many groups of brown pixels there too... The same brown thats on the armor. Green and brown (i beleive) would not be used to create shadows. My monitor colors are all on defaults..... Please clone brothers take a close look at the beach troopers and the trooper on the kashyykk platform and let me know what you think. Standard is grey and i appreciate that. The 3d renders look grey, and some screen caps look grey from further away.... But to me the BEST close ups ive seen posted (platfrom trooper) are mostly green and brown.... Camo in other words. Please let me know what you think.
  18. Does this costume (or any for that matter) require 2 levels of 'status'. There are lots of 501 and RL costumes out there without an 'elite' status which, from what i have seen, cause more problems than they are worth. Im my opinion, if you looked like you just walked off the movie set: it doesnt get any better than that. Im all for putting more work into a costume, i did that on my 327th clone, but i dont need an elite status or anything. Im a 501st member, i know how good that is, and i dont have to compare my suit to the clones around me telling myself whos elite and who isnt. Thats it for me, i promose i wont bug an opine any more, ill just build the very best i can. Thanks to all and those who are updating the CRL. See ya in the build threads!
  19. Ive got one of those! Its partially assembled and literally in my spare plastic bin. Faceplate might make a neat wall hanging with some more work. Some people have built beautiful buckets with this kit. Not me though.
  20. The reference helmet in the gallery is a sceen used helmet isnt it? Cant go wrong with those measurements! Good luck!
  21. The con going general public and all but those very few people who are actually building this costume have ever even seen the 3d renders. The new crl needs support the 'costume' as it was seen on film, first and foremost. If some neuances from the 3d render will be required for an 'elite' status, thats fine with me... But my focus will be to look as much like the screen seen as possible: for the reason above. Thats my opinion anyway.
  22. Holy crap!!!!! Where are the 3 stripes above the lens!!????
