  1. I'm wondering about the angle of the tank to the backplate....ill check mine... How many inches from the top edge to the bottom?
  2. Thanks guys. Wife is 5' 3" the armor is indeed mc. There was som trimming to do as well as some heating and shaping. She had her first troop this past weekend at Ottawa comic con and she had lots of fun. She had trooped before but never in an armor kit. Now to submit pics to our GML. Too busy entertaining kids on the weekend to grab submission pics.
  3. Jae and I worked today. 2nd tank mounted, Jae's bucket starting to come along. Shins all trimmed out and plans to put together started. Glove greeb mould finally poured (lost our can of mould release, so Jae had to bring a fresh one). Jae's drop boxes are backed and biceps put together and filled- great work bro!! Lots of good. Pics if we get a chance.
  4. Great work on the tank! Haven't done much to my shins yet. I just cut where the good shape starts and ill shim the rest.
  5. I wish! Those are the masters (which are borrowed) mounted on the backer board. I'm hoping to pour the mould tonight. We won't be able to pull copies until we get a tint that will work. The rubber is amber so i may be able to add a hint of white tint (which we have) to get a taupe ish colour.
  6. I cant figure out what the heavy black web belt that was provided is for!? I think most people have added the ribbed belt detail to the bottom of the cumberbund with velcro. From what i can tell it just meets at the back, nothing fancy. If you find a way to paint it let me know! Any non foam rubber ive ever tried to paint hasnt worked out well at all. Im thinking of laminating very thin plastic to the belt (rectangles inside and strips for the edges) with ca glue then painting.
  7. Cant wait to build under the same roof again. Soon! In the mean time.....
  8. Just have to do some clay work around the edges, cut a few holes, fill the box with rice to see how much rubber is needed, and I can pour. Mucho thanks to Grumpy, a troopers trooper, for being such a help with this step. The box setup is a little overkill for this mould maybe, but I just cant get the idea of casting in foam out of my head. I may mod this box a bit and try it at a later time. The masters have now been mounted. Just gonna add some Lego bits to the box to suck up some space since as it stands now its a 38 oz pour and that's a bit much. And.... While the box sits with Lego bits curing on, I'm using Tandy leather contact cement to slowly add the thin strip detail. No way on earth that I'm hand stitching that thing on.
  9. Finally got some decent melamine board remnants to make up some mould boxes. One for glove greebs, and one for a kids size clonetrooper belt. Progress is progress. Also finished handstitching the leather handback details on the first pair of gloves. Ok, so I was relying a buddy with some renos, and I snuck the melamine board onto the table saw between laminate floor boards. I had to guess at the sizes, we will see in the morning how close I got but I think I can assemble the mold boxes and get ready to pour rubber.
  10. Also, hevy stiffner is goid to sew or otherwise adhere into your boot tops to avoid too much sag. Some have used a sort of nylon taffeta for the bund and there have been a few conversations around here as to which is more accurate. Cotton is easier to work with and sew. Some light batting in the frint of the bund will help those vertical lines between the pouches pop, as will a slightly heavier stitch.
  11. Most people use a heavy cotton twill for their bund and everyone uses white vinyl (marine or other) for their boots. Watch the way you cut your pieces from the vinyl, it only really stretches one way.
  12. Roughly how wide yes. You will have to play with it a bit to get it all in a position you will be happy with. As for how tall, the reference point will be the bottom of the back plate. Iook at the screen grabs from behind. I think the tank ends just a hair above the bottom of the back plate.
  13. BTW when you see a measurement like 11/16.... 3/4 will do the same job lol. I just wrote what I saw.
  14. I didnt know the tank greeb was supposed to be a flush mount!? tanks guys! As requested Bro here are your pics. sorry it took a while. You will notice that on the bottom to the left and right of centre the tank gets trimmed in a bit. I didnt measure here cause theres no good reference point to measure from. I hope these help. You will find a contour guage helpful for the top and sides but not for the bottom. If you had one of those flexible rubber strip type ones you could match it all up perfect. this should help you get pretty close to the point where a bit of epoxy or other firm filler should do the rest.
  15. Wow!! Awesome! And a lot of work im thinking, even with the newfangled cnc contraption. Your bucks look like they are really coming along..... You need a r half though hehehe
  16. If it can wait till tonight or tomorrow ill send some exact measurements of mine. Pm to remind me. Im at a buddies place painting it for new tennants till late.
  17. A bit of that taupe/Khaki green takes it there. I just wonder if i should put more? The weathering will be rounded out with pastels powders and fireplace ash/charcoal. What do you guys think of the color?
  18. So now our glove bits are grey. Airbrushed with ecoflow leather paint thinned with distilled water. Next Im going to just mist them with a bit of a dark taupe acrylic left over from my armor paint experiments (which are far from over btw). That way they should look a lot like that glove closup we all stare at so much- the one that shows the 'buckle'. If Im lucky, if i hit them before they are totally cured, the acrylic really stick to the leather paint. I do have 2 test chunks so i dont screw up the nice sized pieces. Lots of paint left over for touchups when the strips get their little final shaping.
  19. Yeah Brother- we got some pretty serious work and planning done! So it looks like the gloves wont be tooo hard, but very time consuming. Here is the first pair, opened right up to allow the knuckle pads to be sewn on. On the best pic we have (which IS one of the renders, not scrren) you can see a stitch line around the knuckle pads which is good. You cant see a stitch line around the thin belt... which is bad. I do have leather contact cement, but we'll see, its crap to work with. I may just sew the thin belt on. Ive cut the 'buckle' out of leather but it doesnt look right so it will end up being a slip of .060 or .040 styrene. You can see a difference in texture beteen the 'belt' and 'buckle' at least i think so. The ruler is sitting where (approx) the black will be folded under and sewn and the brown gauntlet will start. Both knuckle pads need final shaping to look good on the glove and all edges need leather edge treatment. The knuckle pads will be masked and misted with leather paint.... or rubbed down with cotton balls and a bit of sye, we will see. Then the whole thing get flipped inside out and sewn back together.... hopefully by machine, but maybe by hand.
  20. I see your nose points in the same direction as mine. The rubber has side slipped in the fibreglass mother mold a bit and that's how they are coming out. When it's all painted up it shouldn't be noticeable. Major major surgery to set that exactly right I'm afraid.
  21. I think you are looking good. I have not looked into the side vents for my bucket yet so I can't really comment on those. I had the same resin build up on one side. Rather than sand forever or burn up the tip of my sanding drum I took my files that look much like yours and held it close to the working end, used a pointy one to v out a gouge the right depth to form the edge that the windshield will sit on. Then gouged with a flat file till I had the flat lip. Resin will give way to steel. I just jammed my hand in the big opening and gouged away. Keep at it brother- you're on the right path I think.
