  1. Congrats Sarah! Thanks for stepping into this important role! Thanks very much for your work, Jenn! It's appreciated and you'll be missed!
  2. The Fila's look good. The sole has that extra edge on them, but I honestly don't see that as being a huge issue...
  3. I seem to recall a thread here, a looooong time ago, where someone actually contacted Hi Tec (the manufacturer of the boots) and asked some questions about making more of them. IIRC, they had no desire to start making them again and I don't even think they had much production material for them (designs, moulds, etc...) but I don't think they were interested in the legalities of a boot they stopped making 40-ish years ago. Crowprops makes the best replica sole for this that's currently available but the boot is not the right shape (more like modern "hiking style" boots than those with the softer toe vamp (front part of the boot over the toes). So yeah, Crowprops can afford to make these because that's what they do. Any other manufacturer that would consider making these again would need to know there's a market for them and, sadly, it's kinda limited to us scouts and maybe the small number of Rebel Endor Troopers who'd be interested.
  4. Yeah, I haven't seen many around here that have single-coloured soles. Kind of annoying... Crowprops is a reliable seller, so that's an option, as mentioned above.
  5. Good luck! Looking forward to having another Mountain Trooper!
  6. Yeah, that's about right. As Corey said, it's better than a TK but there are still some limitations.
  7. So, here's the thing... they'll pretty much always break at some point. The best way to mitigate this is by drilling the holes a bit farther in (about 10mm/ about 3/8") in from the edge. You could go a bit farther in (15mm/ about 5/8") but not more than that. And do like the above by putting on some backing on the inside of the boot as well to help take the strain. Also, be mindful of how you pack your boots afterwards. Make sure there's nothing that's going to knock into them or possibly press down on the holster. And when you're trooping, try not to whack it on something as you're walking by. I've had to replace my holster 2 times and now with my new kit, I'll be on #3. It happens.
  8. Having the potentially smelly bits facing out will help air things out more.
  9. I had some boots years ago, now I wished I'd taken more detailed photos -
  10. I always have had just a single length of webbing for the chest/back strap. Makes it so much easier than trying to sew it onto the back plate and it's actually what they did on screen, too. I'll also add, if you're going to be swapping between a clean/dirty look, make sure you also swap out the webbing on the belt and have white/natural pouches as well as joint covers on the tops of the shoulder straps.
  11. My suggestion would be to figure out whatever the circumference of the sleeve is, and then equally divide it with evenly spaced lines. So, if it's 17" or about 43 cm, try for something that just looks good, probably no wider than 1".
  12. What ^Corey^ said. basically, as long as the helmet matches the armour (more or less), it's fine. If you *do* give it a try, do some tests and post up here if you can. It would be nice to know if it's a good option for a nice glossy paint job.
  13. Just wash in cold water in the casual or gentle cycle. Never had an issue. Also, if you ever DO need to re-wear the suit the same day or within a turnaround shorter than a wash/dry cycle, get some alcohol in a spray bottle (or cheap vodka), turn the smelly bits inside out, spray the areas down liberally and let hang dry. It won't clean it but the alcohol will kill the bacteria so it won't be smelly.
  14. You could stretch a small cobweb across part of your visor with a little spider in it, stick some moss or other stuff on ya, stay away from skulls and stuff like that.
  15. I think you're really close. Check out the Scoutopedia, select Boots and Holster from the dropdown menu and double-check your work. http://www.501stpathfinders.com/scoutopedia.php
  16. You're not the first person to come here with that experience, Bryan. The big difference is that multiple original TK's have been out and about with collectors and the information has been available. Not so much with the scout as only 2 helmets are in private collections (1 of which is up for auction soon), and maybe 1 or 2 sets of armour, including whatever bits Ira Keeler's estate may still have. So we have never really been able to see what the originals were like. RS props is the closest we have and even then, my understanding is that they were loaned the armour pieces so they don't even have them for reference (unless I'm mistaken). Best guide is the photos we have in the Scoutopedia, other builds, and Mickey's video. Do your best and post photos up, like you have been if there are any issues.
  17. If I may suggest, make sure you try to exhale through your nose. Seems silly to say, but that'll help keep your lens from fogging and also from you getting too warm. Also, when you get warm, no shame in going inside to cool off or wherever your changing area is. Bring water and drink it. Have fun!
  18. Congrats on the build and approval! Also bumped ya up to Pathfinder status. Have fun trooping!
  19. Please blame it on us, we can handle it. Ha!
  20. Those pouches are tan. At dirtiest, they should be off-white, even if tea-stained. Darker than white, not a different colour.
  21. What ^he^ said. Also, polished cotton as it existed in the 1980's, is not really available anymore, so the above mentioned alternatives are the best option. I've also used the dull side of heavy satin fabric (has some sheen but isn't really shiny).
