Guest UnderpaidSoldier
Welcome to "UnderpaidSoldier's Armor Building Adventure!" I'll be photo documentating my progress of my Scout armor for the next month, hoping to get it done before Memorial Day weekend for a convention I'll be attending. As of now I do not have all of the pieces just yet, still waiting on my flak vest and cummberbund/pouches to come in the mail. On top of that I still have yet to purchase the materials to make my boots, which I decided to tackle myself instead of having them made for me. Inventory (As of April 24th): - MLC Helmet (assembled) - SC Armor - Blaster - Decals (TrooperBay) - Bacavala (Under Armour) http://www.underarmo.../pid1219738-290 - Undersuit (SAFETY RACING PROBAN SINGLE LAYER) http://www.speedwaym...-Suit,2466.html - Gloves (SithArmor) http://www.ebay.com/...=item35badced78 - Speaker (Aker MR1505) http://www.amazon.co...35298695&sr=8-1 - Headset (Radioshack) http://www.radioshac...oductId=2102926 Day 1 (April 24th, 2012): Rather easy, removed the four patches that were stitched on the undersuit with a pair of scissors. The wrist and ankle portions are white, but I'm not too concerned about modifying the color (as least not now) since they'll be covered by the gloves and boots. Click to see image: http://img.photobuck...0424_160723.jpg I then cut 30 (1 1/2 inch) squares of White Loop Adhesive Velcro that'll be attached to the inside of the armor pieces. Image 1: http://img.photobuck...0424_163326.jpg Image 2: http://img.photobuck...0424_164016.jpg I'm using a "Fine" Sandsponge to smooth the sharp corners of the armor. Hopefully I'm not smoothing the corners too much, would like some input and am open to suggestions. Example of one of the bottom corners of the Bicep piece. This is my first suit I'm working on, and don't want to mess it up. TO BE CONTINUED...
Guest Penn Chemist
Nice, I will be looking forward to your progress. I've chosen TB for my first build and am really looking forward to following you in your costuming quest. Looking forward to future progress and photo updates, best of luck with your work Underpaid. I look forward to seeing your results and pitfalls and tips that you come to find as you progress. I think I may actually begin with the boots... still on the fence as to where to start as my funds will by sparing, about $60 available every two weeks.. esh. Trying to prioritize what to get first as I build up.
Chex
Nice start. Penn, some people start with the armor, some with the soft parts. Just ask questions. We'll be happy to answer.
Guest UnderpaidSoldier
Day 2 May 9th, 2012: Due to recent activity at work, it's been hard to devout a lot of time into the suit lately. I'm currently working on the strap assemblies for the hard armor pieces, but it's taking a while since I'm doing it by hand (and I'm a new sewer)! In the meantime, I'm slowly shifting focus onto the helmet to see what I can do there. My MLC helmet came with a snout piece but something seems strange: - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/UnderpaidSoldiers%20Scout%20Trooper%20Build/20120509_174023.jpg - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/UnderpaidSoldiers%20Scout%20Trooper%20Build/20120509_174013.jpg - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/UnderpaidSoldiers%20Scout%20Trooper%20Build/20120509_174004.jpg Is it just me? The snout looks a little "bubbly" and is the version without the riser plate. If you wanted to - smooth it out with some light sandpaper and make your own riser plate. Guest UnderpaidSoldier
I do own the riser plate (the thin piece that goes behind, and fits into the shape of the snout?), it's just not painted nor glued to the snout piece.

Okay...then you have all the parts.
Guest UnderpaidSoldier
Day 3 (May 13th, 2012): Attempting to paint the snout portion of my MLC helmet, and hopefully have the correct materials or techniques to do so. Here are some photos as of now: Riser plate: http://img.photobuck...0513_185231.jpg Grey paint I'm using: http://img.photobuck...0513_185241.jpg Black paint: http://img.photobuck...0513_185341.jpg Any suggestions or direction would be greatly appreciated. Guest UnderpaidSoldier
How difficult would it be to remove the snout from the riser plate with eproxy on it? Since it seems it was made a little on the sloppy side and I'm on a time hack to get this suit done. That way after Memorial Day weekend, I can replace it with another one. Guest UnderpaidSoldier
Hey gang, It's been a while! I practically disappeared for the summer, and never got to show you all the final product. Still will be making improvements, but this is the suit as of now. Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated! 1) http://img.photobuck...231043760_n.jpg 2) http://img.photobuck...5-120550-XL.jpg 3) http://img.photobuck..._52704760_n.jpg 4) http://img.photobuck...0702_214224.jpg 5) http://img.photobuck...0702_214101.jpg 6) http://img.photobuck...0702_214356.jpg 7) http://img.photobuck...877646082_n.jpg
