Guest UnderpaidSoldier Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Hello gang, Had a question regarding the paint choice for my MLC helmet and wanted to know who used what. I purchased a MLC helmet recently (assembled) and need to paint the snout section black. Which one is typically used, matte or gloss? Thanks in advance, appreciate it.
Griffin-X Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I have seen a variety of takes on this one and used a satin-ish black on mine. The original looks to be a satin or maybe a dulled gloss black. Some scouts do this in flat black and it looks good too.
lonewolf Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Gloss black is too dark looking , I always use matt black, a light polish gives it a slight sheen, just like the originals. Also spraying matt black always seem much less likely to "leak" under the masking tape. I have painted up a lot of nose details and this seems to work best. Give the nose section a wee wipe down with panel wipe or similar prior to masking and spraying for a clean surface, finger prints are very oily and could mess up the finish. The MLC has a very thin nose front which makes it even more tricky to get a nice separated line. Good luck mate.
ukscout Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Ive used gamesworkshop paints really good and easy to use
Chex Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I used a satin black myself, and on other scout buckets I've built. Looks better.
Guest UnderpaidSoldier Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Is it recommended to use a spray or brush? Ethier for the snout piece or the nose?
ukscout Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 the above pic of my snout was sprayed grey then painted black with a brush if that helps
