Is a KS helmet a Kropserkle? Is this one of the most screen accurate out there? Thanks

Yes, and while not the most accurate out of the options you have to choose from, you can def go Lancer with it with a few small mods.

Hello to you mike yes KS are one of the better lids at the mo i trooped with one for two years but i do stress that you get one as a kit and not a built as there are quite a few props with the way KS put them together and most of it you will have to change to mod it, and also you will save some money as they add cost on top for building.

I just finished mine and did my first troop in it, and I got to say yes it was kind of a pain to put together but with patience and help from my brothers on here it was worth every dollar I spent and every hour I put in to it. Not only does it look great it feels even better to wear for long troops, it is so light it almost felt like I had nothing on compared to my don post. I did have to get a new nose and decals the ones they sent with the kit were way off, and I used elevator bolts for the sides because they sent furniture slides for the bolt covers yeah I said furniture slides. LOL

All in all, KS currently offers a good solution for the scout helmet. Most of us own and wear them. Kit or pre-built is up to you and your skills with models and stuff. As stated though, out of the box it is not 100% accurate and will require a few extras (decals, snout, bolt covers). :)

Do I understand correctly that everyone's go to, this 3M elevator bolt, is no longer in production? If so, has a new solution been found that is equally as nice looking? Any chance there is a BSN stock of the 3M elevator bolt if they are no longer made?

And could maybe we get some elaboration on why one would want to self-assemble? What are the issues with getting a KS pre-assembled? Any chance of a rough cost difference of getting a KS built or in rough pieces?

Thanks for any help on this!

Nah, you can still pickup the 3M bolts. Another member actually has a sales thread for them here too (see below). The KS kit uses furniture pads which look similar, but are not screen accurate. Although they are okay for 501st clearance, they should be replaced for Lancer or a more screen accurate look.

I have a follow-up question on the KS helmets. I'm thinking of buying one assembled, but if I do that, how easy/hard is it to replace the bolts on it? Would it basically require taking the thing apart such that I may as well have built it myself in the first place?

Any other important issues that I'd need to fix? Someone mentioned the nose - does the entire nose need to be redone, or does it just need the different decals (ie from Trooperbay)? I'd just be looking at 501st for now rather than Lancer (maybe someday!)

I got mine built. I had to dremmel out the rivets to put in the visor bolts. Not a huge task. Probably easier then building the whole thing. Although, a built helmet is more expensive.

The snout is an easy swap. The KS one just pulls right off. Get an accurate one from MC to replace it with.

Trooperbay decals are more accurate. I'd get those.

Might as well go Lancer from the begining and save yourself time and money upgrading later.

Good to know; these sound like minor modifications. However, just curious - are the MC snout and different bolts required for 501st approval? The reason I ask is because if I get the helmet assembled from KS, and if I order the snout from MC and it takes a few months to get it, can I still submit for approval with the KS helmet as is? Or are there some of these modifications that are required for 501st approval?

For general clearance, not required. For a more accurate look and for Lancer approval...yes.

I've updated my helmet and used decals from Trooperbay, an MC snout (you can also pick these up from Don-Jarr), and then used the 3M bolt covers. For mine, I used a dremel to whittle the 3M-s down to just the round covers and then glued them on. Easy enough...:)
