Darthbarber Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hey there scouts I have some questions for you. I am ready to glue and paint my KS helmet, and I need to know 1. What glue do you guys recommened I use on it? 2. What paint and primer do I use, will it hurt the plastic if I use any ol' white spray paint and primer? And 3. Do you recommend that I seal up and sand the back seam and if so what do I use..ie bondo? Any help will be great thanks! Quote
BananoPower22 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I love e6000, it's the best glue I've seen and it works perfectly. Why paint the helmet? It's already white, right? I didn't sealed the back seam, i just sanded until i had a 'perfect fit, gradually using 40 grit, 80 grit, 100, 200, etc until it's nice and smooth and i get a tight fit, then glue with e6000 and wait for it to dry. IF you want to use bondo, I don't see why that could be a problem. Then you'd need the white paint and primer to cover it up Quote
Darthbarber Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Well when I paid for it he told me I did not need to paint it, but it is very very dull and it don't match my armor at all it has no gloss to it. Is there a way to put a gloss on it without paint? Quote
Chex Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Even if you paint it, you're not going to want a high gloss anyways. I left my ks in my in for a month after trooping Star Wars Weekends at Disney and it yellowed...big time. I masked off the lens, primed it, wet sand with 600 grit, puat a coat of high gloss rustoleum white, wet sanded again, then one more coat of white. Turned out great. Seriously though, I wouldn't worry about painting it. Your armor will dull faster through trooping then your bucket. Let it be, I say. Quote
Griffin-X Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 As stated...E6000 is one of the best glue options. I use it for just about everything except blasters and use Gorilla Super Glue for those tasks. The helmet does not require painting unless (as Chex mentioned) you have some discoloration or something that makes it look wrong. Not sure about the "back seam" deal...can you post a pic? My KS lid does not have this issue. Quote
Darthbarber Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Ok then that works for me, I won't paint it I will leave it as is. Thanks so much guys. I will post pics after I glue it, maybe the seam will not show Quote
Cyber Scout Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 E-6000 is great for armour (and scout boots) as it is a good flexable glue, but me on a personal would use a good ABS weld on a helmet, Make sure the back and cap are trimed well and sit well, onced glued together (with what glue you decide to use) make up some ABS paste with the left over abs from the build this will then be the same colour as the lid and applie to the join at the back and then sand, if done correctly it should do away with the need to paint:) i have used a K.S. like this for the past two years Quote
Darthbarber Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 I will try that trick dude thanks. What glue sets faster? Quote
BananoPower22 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I'm not sure if there's any other glues but CA glue (super glue, krazy glue) does dry fast (10 or 20 seconds maybe), since the e6000 takes like 24/48 hours to fully cure, I used some little CA glue on some spots so the cap and back stayed on place so it let e6000 do its work. Hollywood Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Ok then that works for me, I won't paint it I will leave it as is. Thanks so much guys. I will post pics after I glue it, maybe the seam will not show I used auto wax on my helmet, and armor, its shines nicely! No painting needed. Also the wax protects the armor from minor scratching and yellowing. Quote
TB-8719 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Just weather it ;-) it would make it a whole lot cooler IMO.. hehe 1 Quote

Cyber Scout Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I will try that trick dude thanks. What glue sets faster? Well ABS weld will form a bond in around 10 mins and fully bond in 24 hours, it is a funny stuff to use so have a practise with some scrap ABS beform commiting to the helmet, i would suegest as well sticking one side of the seam first and holding it by hand as i found these two parts of the ks do tend to move about alot when being put together, once that has stuck do the rest of the seam, you will know when the stuff is doing it's job as at first you will feel a slite cold reaction though the ABS when it warms up again it is setting Quote
