U.S. Navy Coveralls ?

Aloha guys,

While I'm waiting for my SC kit to arrive i decided to work on my boots and under suit.

I was looking at a lot of coveralls and race suites when i remembered i still have some old uniforms from when i was in the service.

The Navy issued coveralls seem perfect, and mine have been worn in and feel like PJs. I wanted to Dye them black and sew on the suede pieces.

But what about the pockets? They aren't zipper pockets, just chest, front, and butt pockets. Do they need to come off?

ALSO! I have a good pair of boots from my tour with the Army (yes i got around) They have the tan soles so they should be good too yea?

Yea i was wondering if i should take the ones off that will have armor covering. I was worried about pockets to carry my things, but now i figure my pouches will work fine.

Is there any trick to turn the collar into a mandarin collar? not to skilled with sewing but wanna give it a go.

Bummer...but there are lots of options for an under suit/coverall. ;)

I went with this one and removed the 4 pockets easily. Then I customized it with mandarin collar, added suede patch and elastic, suede butt-flap. Total cost: $60 (and some time and finger pokes...)

A lot of scouts go with this one and customize it. This one is really nice.

After some failed attempts at trying to buy coveralls with a $30 shipping charge i just went in to sears and picked up a cheap one.

However i found out Hawaii does not have any stores that sell Suede or Faux suede... but a quick trip to the womens section in goodwill fixed that problem for $6.

The navy coveralls work great for measurements and for prep work, but as stated before cant hold dye. What did you buy exactly that had suede I have been looking for a cheap alternative myself?

If you can't find real suede, go to Joann's and look for this:

Make sure you run-stop the edges after cutting, or the "suede" will unravel all over the place.
