Smiling Fox Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Hi everyone. I am still waiting on KS to get my armor to me (It's a month late) but I just finished my flight suit and vest and wanted to see if everything was ok. Please let me know if there is anything I need to change. The pic of the back of the vest is backwards so it seems wrong. It is right over left on the back. The patches and mud flap is faux suede but I am probably going to replace it with real suede since I am not completely happy with the way it looks now.
Smiling Fox Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Okay, I can't load pics and apparently can't delete this post now. Lovely.
Griffin-X Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Hey Matt...if you have not already, get a PhotoBucket account. You can upload them there, then post the links here.

BananoPower22 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Very nice suit! Reminds me that I need to finish sewing them suede patches...
Griffin-X Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Hey Matt...great job. It's good to get these details now and do it right. Your vest fits well too.
Chex Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Your vest fits well, but you need some touch ups on your suit mods, mainly the inner thighs and straps. You'll want the straps a little tighter, and not looking so loose. Also with the inner thighs, I can see the suede popping up where the strap meets so you'll want to fix that. Just tighten up the suede bro. Your vest looks good though, though you should have used black velcro instead of white.

You can only see it because I couldn't get the darned thing closed correctly by myself. But it is not noticeable when closed all the way. I will tighten the straps up when I replace the patches with real suede. By popping up, do you mean the white in the back? If so that is the threads from the faux suede and won't be a problem with the real suede.
4505Marcel Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Looking good mate but as Chex has said you will need to change the white velcro on the vest if you want to go lancer at some point, even closed properly you will still see white showing from the side and the thigh straps defo want tightening, again for 501st clearance probably not needed depending on your GML though. All in all a great job though buddy
Smiling Fox Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 Mike and Marcel, I really appreciate the help. I have since changed over to real suede and tightened the straps up. As far as the vest, I am certain sometime soon, the white velcro will bother me like the faux suede and I will change it to black. I am working on my blaster at the moment and hopefully my armor will be shipped soon as it is already over a month late.
Eagerly Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Good job Matt, I'm a little nervous about the suede and strap's, how did you gauge the size needed. Did you ever get an reply ref the question you asked on the position of the suede. I remember you saying you thought it looked to far towards the front on a pic showed, How did you attach yours? Again great job
Smiling Fox Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 Thanks Lee, I did get an answer. Marcel explained that the suit did actually show some suede in the rear when it was on and only looked that way in the picture. The pattern I used is one that was posted on here. http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=7393 This is the thread I got it from. I read that someone had printed it and doubled the size and that is basically what I did. I made two copies and used them as patterns for the cloth. I used old cloth to start so I didn't screw it up. As far as the straps, I placed them around the the thighs and pinned them into place beneath the patches as I sewed. I did have to tighten them up on the second go around. If you follow the pattern on the link and pin it properly while sewing it isn't too difficult. Just time consuming. Of course that could have been because I was watching ROTJ while I was sewing.

I love movie-costume multi-tasking...!
4505Marcel Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I would watch the in seem line on that pattern posted as it shows more at the back than front, Im not convinced that is correct, more is defo seen at the front on the films, mine is approximately 30mm behind the seam line ( but then again my actual seam line sits back past the half way point on my leg if that makes sense) and extends forward, I didnt use a posted pattern with mine, but did use one as referenece I just mocked one up with paper while I wore the suit. My best advice is to print out a clear film shot and then judge in your own mind what looks right as at the end of the day its the look you need not a fan designed pattern to fllow to a T. Every troopers body shape is diffderent so there will not be a pattern 100% that will fit everyone.
