Grantd1*
For my LW build I went for a satin white finish, but I'm now wondering if I need to cover it (just the white!) with a clear gloss to give it that extra plastic shine? What's the concensus?
Acrylikhan
I think you are thinking of "semi-gloss." I'm splitting hairs on this one, but that's because I'm constantly asked questions about finishes and sheens on multiple surfaces types. The problem is that there really is no industry standard terminology. "Satin" is usually used to describe fabric with a very glossy texture. (Wow, straightforward!) Were as in plastic and metal and paint the definition is all over the board... Metal is usually a brush finish that has a soft "glow," plastic is generally semi-gloss, and paint is dull but not flat, matte. Satin is also used to define the halfway point between Flat and High Gloss. So this is a tricky one... I am guessing you are talking about plastic, and paint. Straight out of the can/airbrush the finish is generally semi-gloss, UNLESS the can says otherwise. You can use a clear semi-gloss overcoat to get that sheen. Does that help a little? Chex
Well, working in and around the paint department at Lowes, there are different sheens to paint. Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Satin, Egg Shell, Matte, Flat. Just subtle differrences in each one. Satin is a softer semi-gloss in my opinion. If you plan on weathering the bucker, leave it. If you want to stay a clean scout, I would hit it with semi-gloss coat like Frank said. When I had to repaint my KS bucket (never leave your bucket in your bin for a month after a sweaty SWW troop) due to yellowing, I just went with a straight high end high gloss and it turned out like I wanted. Ultimately, it's up to you.
Grantd1*
that's cool - I think it's just the lighting on the pics I took that made me a little nervous!!

4505Marcel
I ended up using gloss clear coat and halford apliance white paint on my MLC as I couldnt get matt clear coat at the time and just used a really fine wet and dry paper to knock off the uber shine
