My LW Scout Helmet!

Recommended Posts

So..i managed to finally get going on this LW bikerscout helmet this weekend. Got it a few weeks ago but havent had the chance to get started on it. I sold my MLC3 to get this kit. Since this is one of the first kits LW offered, it didnt come with any instructions or guidelines, or cut lines. It was a little tricky to get together, but i think i finally got it the way i want it. Of course the seams need to be filled and the whole helmet painted, but i just wanted to show you guys where im at.

Looking good Lou, I am sure you had a bit of head scratching to do but you seem to have figured it out very well, hope you are happy with it.

Thanks Everyone!

Haha a little bit of head scratching, but not too much lol. I really wanted to do a detailed build thread but got so into it i forgotto take pics! I absolutely LOVE it man!

i can't wait to get ahold of an LW! i'm wondering about the lens. it seems larger and more "open" than other buckets...and yours seems to have sharper corners at the top temple area. did it come that way or have you altered the lens frame?

It all depends on how you trim it out. I posted pics of the screen used helmet i am trying to emulate in the first post in the thread. That particular helmet has a larger lens area so, i trimmed mine to match as close as i could.

Ok! i filled the seams with ABS putty. (ABS shavings and Acetone) Had to apply it 3 times, letting it dry over night all 3 times and sanding in between layers. Its not perfect, but i think its pretty good! lol I also put a couple of coats of paint on it, and painted the inside black I know thats not screen accurate but i like my trooping buckets black on the inside. Going to wet sand and do a few more coats of white and hopefully that will be it for paint. Ill try and get some pics up soon!

What was your recipe for the putty? (1:1, 2:1, 2 fingers of acetone and a buncha plastic?)

iactually got a small GLASS jar with a screw on lid. i had saved a bunch of shaving from dremeling armor and put a bunch in and filled the jar about 1/3rd the way with acetone. i guess theres no real science to it lol. but i let it sit over night and it pretty much dissolved the plastic almost completely. when you open the jar,the acetone will start to evaporate and the liquid with thicken. It was still a bit thin, but a few coats worked great. Ill post pics tonight/tomorrow so you can see how it came out with 1 application of 2 coats of paint and a wet sand.
