TK6782
Just arrived today, the SC armor seconds. its a complete set including the helmet but without the strapping. Should make fo an interesting build. Okay here is the weathering and addition of blaster holes into the chest plate. I'm not too sure if I like the green in the weathering so I may wash that off and start over, and I need to make the grooves a bit darker with weathering if I keep it. I am also not sure if I want to do just a clean trooper who has recently been killed. If I do it this way then I don't have to worry about making cummberbund and boots that match. I have also decided to use the rubies bucket that I have instead of the SC one that I have been working on as the SC one is a lot more comfortable. Anyways let me know what you think The weathering is just water soluble acrylic craftsmart paint from Michael's cost $0.69 a bottle. I used spanish olive, black, and wine to add a small amount of blood colour to the holes. everything on there can be easily removed with the exception of the weathering on the forearms, I had a coat of white spray paint on them previously and the weathering wont come off of those. For the blaster holes/marks I used white glue and toilet paper and painted it black.

TK6782
so I decided to make a cummberbund to go with the zombie since I didn't want to wreck one of mine. I have had no sewing lessons or anything like that just things I have learned on my own, so this was quite the challenge. This was my first attempt and I just stared and measured my old one and figured it out best I could. It looks pretty decent for a first attempt but having done it once if I ever have to do it again there are definitely some changes I would make. Great for a zombie though! I used an ivory coloured fabric because it looked more weathered and old then the nice shiny white. the main body of the cummberbund was actually quite easy to make. I then took a look at the pockets and almost quit on the spot but, having far too much time left in the day to go to bed I started making my own pattern for then based on the other pockets I have. They turned out better then I thought they would and I am quite pleased so after about four hours Voila! a Cummberbund! Again for a first attempt I am very pleased at how it turned out. I have sewn the pockets onto the main body as I hate how mine use velcro. here is is compared to my other one next step weathering it... any tips for that? Griffin-X
You could wear it and roll around outside in the dirt, leaves, mud, etc. No kidding, it would look real that way.
TK6782
I think I might just do that!!

Guest BikerMole
I think were I do one of these, I'd have at least one of the pouches ripped and torn... Otherwise, this is fun project and I'm going to want to see the finished version.
TK6782
Hmm good idea! I'm also thinking about splashing a little acid on the fabric to eat it away in a couple spots leaving holes
TK6782
Also thinking about perhaps an Ewok arrow through the lens but not sure... Something needs to be done with the helmet though
chimei
tea and instant coffee make great stains for the "wet dirt" look. looks a lot like the water stains that sometimes appear on the tiles in a drop ceiling...
Griffin-X
Are you going to do a 3/4 blasted helmet, or just a little battle damage?
TK6782
I'm not really sure if I want to wreck the bucket but I might put a scorch mark on much like the chest piece

chimei
here are some pics of the tea and coffee method. these are on the straight jacket i built for my Batman: Mad Hatter costume. this is the jacket opened up here is a little closer...the tea stains are made using a tea bag an blotting it, allowing the tea to spread out and soak in. once dry, you can layer it in stage unitl getting the desired look as you drag the same tea bags, let them "dry out" and they will start to fall apart, creating this dirt appearance that is much nicer to control (and easier to clean up) than fuller's earth finally, here is a shot of the sweat stains...again, layered tea - and without the smell of real sweat hope it helps

Griffin-X
That's pretty cool man. I bet it looks totally rad in person! You need some arm damage, like from falling or something. Maybe even some leg damage too.
