Nicole
Hello again fellow scouts =] I had sone questions about where to start when I get my armor. In about a week my KS helmet/armor kit will arrive, and I have no doubt I'll dump it on the floor and stare at it with no idea where to begin. Since I'm going to literally dremmle/sand everything down extensively to be be proportionate to my size, I was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions about which pieces to start first, etc. Any advice would be much appreciated! TB-5027
Hey Nicole Sanding and trimming is the way to start on your armor, take pictures, use mirrors and see if the pieces look proportional to your frame, etc. For some pieces you might even want to squeeze them a bit like the forearms and biceps. On my SC kit I had to heat-shape those parts, and the chest/back, knee plates as well. I used a hair dryer and a heat gun (which I do not recommend due to warping hazards). When you're sanding, mind those sharp edges that need to be rounded out a little bit. You don't want your suit or anything else getting caught on your costume. Once you get a good idea of how the armor will look on you, continue with the straps+velcro business. It's kind of a pain to sew velcro on elastic straps, and if you don't own a sewing machine it can take several hours.
Jello
Having done a TK and a snowie in addition to my TB, I'd recommend starting with a smaller piece first, and working your way up to the bigger sections. Something like a knee plate is a whole lot less intimidating than a chest or back plate to a beginner.
Nicole
Thanks guys! And a note about the heatgun: for some pieces like the forearm I know I'm going to need to heat it up a little to bend it around me arm; should I do it little by little to avoid over-warping? I don't think people realize how small I am and how much I'm going to need to scale the armor down lol. Let's just say my flightsuit is a child's medium...
