automaton
Hey Guys, I got an MC hollow snout and I thought it would be hollow all the way through so I'd have access from the back. It isn't so I was thinking about drilling a hole through the back. I don't know much about drilling through resin (I'm assuming it's resin) and was wondering if any of you have tried this or just know what precautions I need to take so I don't crack or shatter it? It's not super important that I drill it, I just thought it would be cool to also drill through the front of the helmet and have a little air vent. I was also wondering with the hollow snout what is the best way to get the little screen into place and how to keep it there so it doesn't fall out? Thanks, -a
bjsavage7
I just drilled right through mine with a dremel. Its pretty sturdy. Then after I cleaned & painted it, I glued the screen in with super glue.

If you were rebuilding your helmet would you do it again or just leave the hollow snout as it is?
bjsavage7
I'd say its beneficial. A little bit anyway. Always good to get any extra air you can into your bucket.
Ducman82
sounds like more work to me. im mean that hole would be what? 1 inch above the bottom of the bucket?
Dart
I did the same thing. Test fit the snout and do some measurements. Drill the hole in the helmet and then, slowly, drill the hole in the snout. Resin will warp if it's heated too much so be careful. I drilled a half-inch hole in mine and I attached a squirrel fan to it. Works very well. The grill should drop in. I'd suggest painting the inside of the snout first, dropping the snout in and if it's not snug, use a *tiny* bit of crazy glue to keep it in place (like a drop, max). When I did mine, I painted the snout with some black acrylic paint. That gave it some "grab" when I stuck the screen in place. Then I painted a bit more on the edges to secure the screen. Thanks for the info. Two questions: Did you drill the 1/2 inch hole in one go or start with a smaller hole and work your way up? Can you post a picture of how you have the squirrel fan in the snout? I just got two small squirrel fans and am trying to figure out how I want to place them in the helmet. I hadn't even thought of sticking one in the snout. hooray4rayray
Does anyone know how well the MC snout fits a KS bucket? I really don't like the snout greeblie it came with, and I see that MC's is the most accurate, so I was hoping to switch it out.

The MC snout fits within the KS snout area, i modded my own KS with an MC snout and it worked

Can you post a picture of how you have the squirrel fan in the snout? I just got two small squirrel fans and am trying to figure out how I want to place them in the helmet. I hadn't even thought of sticking one in the snout. I started with a pilot hole and then worked my way with my unibit (stepped drill bit, very handy) until I got to the size I wanted. I'll post a photo of the fan tomorrow but I've got the squirrel fans duct pointing up towards the visor. It's pretty close to my mouth and mic but it comes in handy, I just have to be sure I don't exhale through my nose to hard when I have it on, ha! The only thing you'll probably have to do is sand down the bottom near the rounded end as that part of the KS snout isn't quite flat. Easily done, though. Chex
Basically what Dart said, is how I did mine, and Pla3guis's bucket. I'll get around to adding a fan some day.
automaton
So I drilled out the snout and finished the hole with a file. Here are a few pics. Now it's time to paint it.
