I have received many PMs and questions in the last few weeks regarding the undersuit which would be acceptable to use for Biker Scout.

The basic legion standards as seen in the Biker Scout Visual CRL is:

Flight Suit

  • The undersuit is a one or two-piece black textile suit, such as military flightsuits, motorcycle racing suits, industrial work clothing (Dickies), or similar suit.
  • Suit should not have any visible labels or logos or zippers.

This allows for Dickies and other styles of overalls with shirt style collars.

However, the Lancer specification states as follows:

IV. UNDER SUIT

  • Based on a one piece flight suit or racing suit and including:
  • All visible zippers and pockets (except for primary zipper) removed.
  • Black suede or faux suede riding patch on the inside of the thighs and over the seat of the suit.
  • Two thigh straps made from 1.5" (3.8 cm) black elastic that are affixed underneath riding patch.
  • Mandarin style (or similar) collar that can be raised up to help conceal the neck and would preferably have an enclosing strap to keep the neck concealed.

This shows requirement for a mandarine collar or closure with turned up collars. If you wish to sew on a closure so your dickies collar looks appropriate turned up, that will work, as long as it is clean and closed and we do not see your neck. Otherwise, I can only suggest a suit with a different collar.

I wear a racing suit from Speedway Motors which is the same suit worn by member loosetoon who has a post in the armory archive showing the suit in some better photos:

So if you are going to buy the cheaper Dickies, overalls or flight suit, you will need to consider the collar closing before you apply for Lancer. If you don't intend to apply for Lancer, then no problem.

I can also recommend the undersuit made by LadySewForUs as it is the correct style and has the correct collar.
