Thigh strap width

Yes this subject has been talked about many times, if it is agreed that the drop box straps are 1.5" then the leg thigh straps are at least wider judging by the MOM suit and the pre production Biker Scout pictures, as seen in Star Wars Chronicles.

I believe the actual size is closer to 2" , guess work unfortunately.

Anybody ever measured the two different straps for a definitive measurement?

It looks like it is right about 2". Don't quote me on it though. I would like to know an exact answer as well since I am in the process of making a new TB.

Hi John!!!!!!

This is from 501st Lancers, The Ultimate Scout Gear

http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=1364

IV. UNDER SUIT

1. Based on a one piece flight suit or racing suit and including:

- All visible zippers and pockets (except for primary zipper) removed.

- Black suede or faux suede riding patch on the inside of the thighs and over the seat of the suit.

- Two thigh straps made from 1.5" (3.8 cm) black elastic that are affixed underneath riding patch.

- Mandarin style (or similar) collar that can be raised up to help conceal the neck and would preferably have an enclosing strap to keep the neck concealed.

I do not know if this was changed !!!!!!!!

Regards, Leo

Yes I know this, I also believe it could be incorrect.

The current lancer specifications show it as 1 1/2 inches width. There has been some discussion in the past about it maybe being 2 inches. It was decided by the command staff last year to leave it as 1 1/2 inches. I am happy to leave it there and have stated a few times that if someone submits with 2 inch width, they will not be turned down. I am not interested in changing a specification for Lancer at this time as I have not seen adequate evidence over the past while showing it to guaranteed be 2 inch elastic. From my point of view, the elastic attached to the cummerbund going to the back is 2 inch. In my opinion, the thigh straps are not as large. For now the specification stays the same.

I can see John's point in this.

If you look at this Screen grab.

starwars6_3273.jpg

It's about the only one where we can see all three together.

I don't know if someone has some funky measuring software at all, which would make this much easier. I'm just going by eye.

If we take the Thermal Det (main body of) as being about 5 or 5.1/2" wide, the butt strap looks to be about half the width of that, maybe slightly more (ouch, that'll sting a little), so putting it about 2.5". Or in our Metric world, close to 65-70mm

If the Drop straps are 1.5" (40mm), and the thigh straps are wider, but not as wide as the Butt Strap, then 2" (50mm) sounds fair.

But looking at the picture, the drop straps do look a similar size to the thigh straps, so the waters do get a little muddied.

It gets further muddied when you look at the MOM exhibit (which I hate to use as a reference).

The butt strap on that doesn't look as wide as in the screen grab. Throwing everything out again.

So.... You be the judge!
