Guest MikeC23
This is just a mock-up, so there are some changes I need to make on my next version...(more batting, a little bit longer in the waist, also I used a suiting material on the underside of the sleeve so it gives it more sheen then the accurate material on the outer art of the sleeve, plus the stitching will be a lot cleaner on the "official" version), although, the lighter batting might be a little more desirable in the hotter climates and regions. It looks a bit baggy in the pics, but it fits a lot better on me than it does on my mannequin. Let me know what you guys think. Any constructive suggestions are welcomed as well. lonewolf
Nice job Mike, the stitch lines look about the right distance apart, the back join is nice, overlap the correct way, I really like the way the sleeves go to the neck and the slack around the armpits is good. Maybe it is the flash but I think the sleeve material is a bit shiny and could do with a dulling down, I don't think the sleeves were folded outwards but were tucked inside the vest and possibly stitched up at the distance you have it. Maybe a few pics with the chestpiece/back and shoulder bells on would give me a better idea, the opening on the collar needs to hang at the same distance across as the chest/back armour connections. This is a great looking vest mate. TB-7076
I have some problems with it - not that much with the overall shapes and the formal details but the materials used. The sleeves need to be more rigid; in your proto they look too thin and soft. Also the fabric used looks a bit too shiny in my opinion. It should be dull. The chest is also very soft - I know you probably used a thin layer to prevent heating but it creates a strange look in the back area were it is visible and exposed also due to the border of the closure. The former needs to be a tad thicker. Originally they probably used cotton materials - I used a polyester fabric known from backpacks to achieve the look and also keep it rain resistant to some degree. Original: Note thickness of closure and appeal of the material This is what I did: http://www.madphisto.net/myscout/vest02.jpg As you see I also made up my mind how to prevent overheating and rain but tried to conserve the correct look and feel of the materials. Matrials I used: a medium thin polyester fabric for the vest (that one used in sport and leisure products) for the vest a polyester net fabric also used in sports utilities for the venting window (I also suggest a small window for the axles) padding for the sleeves The most important thing I think is that the materials are not shiney/glossy and rigid not to soft. Boba Leo
Hi Mike, nice to meet you !!!!!!!!! I really like the way of his vest, I do not really like the shiny fabric that you used for the sleeves. I will be using this template (drawn), which was made, a long time ago by a member here. This will help me, to make my vest. " I hope this will help you" Good luck, Keep in touch, Leo
Guest MikeC23
Thanks for all the feed-back, Guys. Keep it coming, I can use all the help I can get. The material on the cuff of the sleeve is definitely to shiny, the other material only has that sheen when I used a flash on it. I agree the neckline may be too wide, I'll have to modify that. I can't say for sure, of course, it's just my opinion....but here's a few images which lead me to believe that the original sleeve was longer, but then "they" decided just to roll/fold into a cuff. Again, any feed-back is appreciated.
Boba Leo
Good point! And I have read that ILM did several suits, not all these were equal among themselves!!!!!!!!In this way perhaps we would have different vest and suits!!!!!! Leo

c0wboi
And that is why we have the CRL. An established, agreed upon standard for all members to adhere to. Of course these were all hand made and unique suits....we're dealing with movies with limited budgets and not much CGI. The CRL was established for ease of use and standardization. chimei
i think i'll be using this pattern as well. i may use a heavy black cotton as polyester traps heat. taking an old dress shirt (from thrift shop) that fits over my undersuit, placing this drawing over it, and then cutting the shirt will make the pattern fit me just right. i'm wondering about the stitching on the sleeve. what is the distance? is it 2 inches? i love the idea of making the vest and cumberbund a one-piece item.
