MURDOCK Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Sorry but I dont know the real name of the piece but its the small goggle shaped flap that is glued to the boot on the front. I was just wondering is it better to glue it all the way across or does it work better to just glue the sides and leave the middle? I layed it on the boot and it seems like if I glue it all the way it might bind a bit much giving too much of a pinched look, but at the same time I dont want the middle bowing out if it shouldnt. Any tips are welcome as thats all I have left before I try and submit pics to join, Thanks.

jabbasdead Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I have always glued them down. My current boots (8yrs old) are finally starting to separate after quite a few troops. I would glue them down, if you use a good glue you should not have any problems.
4505Marcel Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Yup I glue mine totally not just the ends, I use E6000 or goop and pin it down and tape while setting
flashcove Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Mine are also glued down all the way across with E6000.
MURDOCK Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Alright, cool, Thanks for all the info everyone.
Ursus Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Is E6000 the "standard" glue everyone has come to use for making the boots? Were other adhesives tried in the past? Some folks mentioned GOOP. Are these the big 2 for boot making? I'm about to start mine and I don't want to use something that will not hold well and end up having to reglue anything. Thanks
Dart Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 GOOP and E6000 are virtually identical. Go with whichever you can find. I used E6000 but I've also used GOOP. They smell exactly the same...

So long as nobody is TASTING them to determine the difference... That would be bad... very bad... Only the Mass Spec should taste the glue. To tell us what the secret ingredient of GOOP really is. Thanks for the info. Anybody remember eating the construction/art paste in grade school? Hope nobody was a vegan...
Jello Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Anybody remember eating the construction/art paste in grade school? Hope nobody was a vegan... I remember that kid! I sometimes wonder what happened to her...
Witness Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I usually have a room full of boots I am working on and go through 4-6 tubes of Goop in a sitting. I keep telling myself I have been clean and sober for almost 6 years... Goop fumes could be discounting that statement.
