Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Here a preview of my new helmet v 2.0

It is not finished yet. Actually I'm making changes and modified.

In a few weeks, I'll upload new pics.

Looks good. A few things I noticed -

- the bottom corners on the visor look a bit too sharp.

- the snout might need to be a bit longer. Looking from the side, the chin of the faceplate should angle down a bit more. However, it could just be the angle on the helmet stand that's making it look that way...

- the ear holes should have sharper corners on the inside (against the helmet), like a "D".

- the vent holes in the back.

I see improvments with the overall shape of the helmet but it is still far from authentic to be honest!

A lot of the "organic" anatomical features of the helmet are wrong - it is hard to describe these features correctly.

Most parts of the very important shapes around the bulge of the main ear vents and the visor apear too boxy.

The goggle frame looks a bit awkward as most of the helmet's facemask apears quite symetric but the eyes don't.

I wonder if you have enough material of the original helmet to help you shaping the details correctly - a lot of spots are completely different than the orignal especialy visor, continued shapes of visor to main helmet and other parts like the neck being of different depth on each side.

I like the opened vent holes in the back - though you should offer these as an optional choice - some people would like to have it screen accurate!

Check out the pictures in the Gallery. Especially with the snout wall. I think you might have it too thin. If you look at the close up photographs, the snout actually is a 90-degree drop, not sloped. It could be a camera trick with the primer. The snout ridge area was half white and half black.

I do like the sharpeness around the lens area... I think you've nailed that pretty well.

I forsee a lot of bondo filling rounding of edges. I am looking forward to seeing your progress!

On the side note- I know its not screen accurate, but I am really digging the angular feel! Its pretty cool!

Just a little note to help prevent possible confusion. When I first saw the topic title, I thought it was a helmet for the Kashyyyk trooper. The official ID for Kashyyyk is CB. I see why CucBlack chose CB but it may cause some confusion.

Very good looking start for this project.

Thanks for your comments.

This is a prototype, not finish yet. The final helmet will not have vent holes or angular feels. These are for a symmetry reference.

About the CB confusion, it was not my intension. I'll fix this situation.

I think the vent holes (of my helmet) are a little big and rounded. In the next pic you can see the actual holes (rounded) and two options: Semi-square and smaller.

Any suggestion???

hi CB

The original detail on the helmet vents look like they did pull very well when vac formed.

My suggestion is to cut the holes out and place a bit of plastic secured fixed inside the helmet where the vent area

is and bondo the vent details holes i.e external side that you look at to give them a more softer look like the original.

i hope you get the gist of what I'm saying

I go for the semi square look

Hi Christian

Great update on the scout lid looking allot better, I'm looking forward in seeing more pics.

Just one thing I noticed is that the scout visor needs to be thinker, look at the front on pic of the visor

towards the bottom of the visor
