I'm confused... a little

So going over lots of old threads here, and the CRL, I think I've got the following down:

 

A canon scout's only weapon is the holdout blaster. At a CANON event (which is something put on by LFL or other major entity, right?) only the holdout may be carried.

 

Now, comes the questions... Sniper rifle. In the official CRL, they mention the DLT-19 as an optional weapon. This means that one could carry a DLT-19 and it would count as official troop, right? I get that it's not canon, and some don't like the idea, but it's in the CRL....

 

Now, I'm not gonna go all wonky and put on a pauldron, but I do like the DLT. I was a designated marksman in the Army, and have always had a thing for snipers. It was one of the reasons I made a Scout, actually.

 

Basically, can a Scout carry a DLT and it still be an official troop? Thanks folks!

The designation between 'canon' and 'non-canon' is more of an event by event basis, rather than anything on a general "this is an official troop" vs not.

 

In your example, if there's a LFL troop designated as a canon event, the holdout blaster is the only weapon allowed for Biker Scouts. However, if it's designated as a non-canon event, the DLT-19 is perfectly fine. At least, I'm hoping I'm remembering everything right.

 

As a pretty new trooper, I have yet to encounter any 'canon-only' events, and it may vary from Garrison to Garrison, but my impression is that you'd be able to carry the DLT-19 a good amount of the time.

If it's a canon event, you're only able to carry the holdout blaster. Think on screen. If you didn't see it on screen, you can't do it at a canon event. For those informal non-canon troops, by all means, bring out the BFG!

Thanks for the replies...one more related question then. And its a super newb question....but I am one! Lol. What defines a "Canon event" ? Is that pretty much Garrison discretion, or....? Sorry. Just don't want to have to worry about stashing a 5 foot rifle somewhere cause I didn't know...

A canon event is any event that involves LFL. If we're repping for them, it's canon. Automatically. Every time.

 

The only other time an event is canon is either because your CO tells you so or it's requested by the event planner.

 

So the vast majority of your events will probably be non-canon. If your CO doesn't like you toting the DLT, they'll probably tell ya.

When I did "Weird Al" Yankovic concerts, it was canon-events too.

 

Isn't the preferred nomenclature "sharp shooter"? Sniper has a nasty connotation.
