I have a TD kit from MC. and it seems the belt clips used are not kosher. what is the lancer way to attach the TD to the belt? pictures would rock!

I believe that shadowmantis ran into this same issue with his MC armor as well...

I'm sure that some Lancers have ideas as well, in terms of meeting spec, but that thread may help to give you some ideas initially.

alice clips might work, but they still show a little. i want to see a pic of this ziptie idea. im thinking about velcro my self. box in the back of the TD, then add loop to the buckle (center of where TD goes) then hook side on the TD. might have to give that a try,

There's nothing specifically worded in the Lancer requirements that says you can't use the MC clips or that they have to be completely hidden.

true, but the local GLM is giving me flak about it.

On my SC kit there is 4 holes drilled into the female part of the clip. Slip a zip tie, through 2 of the holes say left side, go around the corrigated tube and pull tight. Place the TD box part over your corrigated pipe. The second zip tie is basically the same as the first, but this time it goes through a hole in the box, back in the box around the pipe and pull tight. You can then see a little black zip tie vertical in the middle of the TD box on the outside as per movie.

You then attach each end of the belt to the clips as usuall, the clip is in the middle under the TD box and pipe so always hidden.

Hope this helps ;)

There's a thread here http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?show...+Detenator+hair about how to use hair clips to attach the TD to the belt.

That thread demonstrates using 4 hair clips to hold the TD in place. I did something similar, but because of the belt clip, I was only able to put 2 in place. I clipped one inside the sewn loop of the female end of the clip and usually leave that one permanently in place, unless I need to inspect my TD. The other clip I only attach after I've donned the belt and fastened the belt clips.

I hope I'm making sense, but it's been a long day and my ability to detect unclear writing is somewhat worn down. :-P

I apparently don't have any pictures of the detached TD on my Flickr account, but if you're interested I'd be happy to take some and link them here.

Why not use velcro on the belt to hold together & plastic clips (similar to the hair clips/slides but bigger) to hold the det in place? SC provided it for me. Can take pics if you want.

The 2 tie wraps (zip ties) is so easy to do, no need to try and over engineer it guys, but really any method that does the trick will be fine as long as the mounting method cant be seen and you have a black tie wrap visable in the middle of the TD ;)

Here is what i ended up doing. i took some ABS plastic and then hot gluing it to the pipe, then when that set, i used epoxy on the edges. the velcro works perfect!

  • 5 months later...

Old thread yes but the actual method is still unknown, SC version with the big quickclip is quite good but the actual Biker Scout TD bracket is seen hanging over the nylon belt. Alice clips are not accurate so what type of belt clip is the original?

I have looked at ww2 belt clips, army belt holders etc, a phone belt clip was the closest I saw but still nothing the same. It appears a split type top at least, nothing showing below the belt so they are possibly quite short, 2" or less.

If I find it I will post it up.

Yeah, if you look here...

http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?app=gallery&image=64

you can see the four little hooks going over the belt.

Now ALICE clips are not what they are..... That much we know. Admittedly, I think if you modified an ALICE clip, by taking out the locking part and shortening it down, it might just work.

Now, on my own TD and I know it's not truly canon, but I've gone for a similar style belt hook to what's on a TK. But to make it look more like the screen used bits, I've painted them white and then done the edges in black pinstripe. They are pretty hidden behind the thermal det, so you don't really see them unless you specifically look.

Curiously I don't have a picture of it to hand. I'm sure I've taken one somewhere.

they are weird, that I'll give you.

If you look at this picture of an ALICE Clip...

You might be able to see where I'm going with this....

Remove the locking bar (the one with the loop at the top) and then bend the bottom section around so it secures into the det somehow (haven't got that far yet!). You'd have the metal hook to drop over the belt.

Would it be suitable?? Are they too wide?? I don't know. But it's worth a shot to see how it looks.

Those of you in the states should be able to pick up ALICE clips by the bucket load in surplus shops.
