So what does everyone do for the ear parts of the helmet, you mostly all just paint it black? Lancers have to get it screened off or something from what I understand, but for everyone else I just assume it's black paint. Some pics seem to make it look like there is a little grey painted around the black, but that could just be my eyes playing tricks with me or shadows in some pics. Any close up pics of what folks have done? I see no decals for the part and don't want to over paint it either.

None are painted, thay are all cut out and some have mesh in them, film accuate helmets have nothing in the ears but do have dark foam in the back of the ear hole for depth there are some "in helmet" pics of used helmets in the gallery.

I see now, thought it was painted since couldn't see the detail in most pics, just looks like black.

Best method to cut those out? Dremel?

Dremel would be what I would use. Also, I would recommend painting the inside of the helmet black as well. That will help with the black inside the ears (should lighting hit it just right) as well as helping to keep your eyes from possibly showing through the lens (depending on the shade that you go with).

Ditto!!! Have a little patience and don't get too frisky with the Dremmel!! It's easier to take more off but way harder to add bits

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine, just don't be afraid of it.
