Tru-Spec 27-P vs. Rothco flightsuit

Currently I'm just a TK but want to change that. I have my SA gloves on its way and was wondering about the flightsuit. I see some people seem like they get Rothco and I see there's also Tru-Spec flightsuits. Which do people tend to get mostly? I know Rothco's is thinner. I know cucblack is nice but I can't afford that now. Also I'm 6'4" so I was wondering what size should I get. I know for the Tru-Spec27-P, I can get XL long but Rothco does not come in long. Thanks for any input.

The tru-spec looks nicer than the rothco. cucblacks suits are not accurate. A lot of people use racing suits as they are closest to the motorcycle suits that were used in the film.

I got the Rothco and it works fine. A lot of pockets and zippers I needed to take off though, but its a little baggier than the motorcycle suits which I like more imo.

I'm only 5 feet 9 nine inches and i weigh only 135 pounds so i got a small. If i was any bigger i would get a medium because theirs not much more room. Like, i'm working out trying to gain more weight and i'm kinda worried that when (if) I hit around 150-160 that it will be to small lol.

I'd go with Tru-Spec as you can get a long size in those. The less you have to remove the better. I personally prefer a thicker suit as I want a little more between me and those pesky Ewoks. :P Have you seen the size of the 'skeeters on Endore's forrest moon? :blink:

 

Any recomendations on what grade of ultrasuede to use for the crotch and butt flaps? ;)

I have a question if anyone can answer it, I like the racing suit but im concerned that it maybe a little to hot to wear, i live in cali and it can get pretty hot, has anyone had any issues with this?

 

If it is too hot to wear especially doing the summer i may just get the tru-spec.

This is a really helpful thread.

 

I'm thinking of going for the Pro Ban because I like that it has less sleeves to take off.

 

I want to a charity cycling ride in spring (but with a street-legal helmet on). Would the ProBan be too hot for that?

I'm short (I think around 5' 6") but a bit overweight at the moment. So when it comes time to buy a suit, do I go for the large to handle my fat and shorten?

I liked its Mandarin Collar.

 

Looks like a better choice to mod up. The fewer thigns to remove the better. The fewer additions the better. I like the Mandarin collar and the fact that there are fewer pockets to remove. Having to add the leather crotch with elastic straps and the butt flap will be enough work as it is. :lol: Not having to modify the collar to convert it to a Mandarin style saves time and effort. :D

Yes it does look nice. That is if you have the $90 plus shipping, just to have the mandarin collar and fewer things to remove.

I'd still have pay $90 for a racing suit. :lol: Wish I could try them on to see which would fit me better. I might have to see if any of the local shops carry them. We have quite a lot of uniform and surplus shops in then SF bay area. There are also some good racing, motorsport and motorcycle shops as well. Sometimes flight suits are baggy on me, sometimes not. :blink: Mostly what I'm looking for is something I won't have to replace later with somthing that fits better, as in more accurately. ;)

 

Call me lay in my old age... :P but if I don't have to make a mod, why do it? ;) That would leave removing a couple pockets and adding the suede bits plus leg elastic. LSFU is making my bund, pouches and vest. I'd like to sew something on this. :lol:

The racing suit looks like it's quilted, which would not work. The racing suits worn are single layer without quilting on the jumpsuit portion. The ribbing seen on the sleeves is from a vest worn over the racing suit and under the cumberbund and armor.

 

The first undersuit would not work at all as it is mesh material. It might work under a flight suit if it is designed to wick away moisture. Those are probably worn under the fire retardant suits to help keep the driver/rider cooler. They would just add too many layers to a costume. The second one would work for a TK undersuit, a bit expensive, but probably long lasting.

 

Keep looking, you'll find one. If not there, then find one here and see if shipping isn't too expensive. If it is see if someone from a garrison closer to you might be willing to pick one up from a local shop and mail it to you. It might be cheaper that way, since they can ship it at the cheapest rate. Many companies charge more for international shipping even though there are loser cost alternantives.

I've read a lot about undersuits and still feel like I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for. Admittedly, the CRL for the undersuit is a short paragraph. So far, I mainly look out for how much striping is on the suit and price.

 

What was wrong with the second inner suit? One of the advantages of that store is that I will be able to visit it in a couple of months (my MC armour will arrive in a few months) and thus can try it before buying it.

 

I think the TBs who regularly troop in my garrison have gone for the flight suit.

 

I'll keep looking and if I don't find anything, I might just go for the Proban since I've heard good reviews in these threads.

I just got the 24-7 Tru-Spec jumpsuit as an early b-day present from my wife. Was 20% off so it came to $77 with shipping and tax. I know its a little baggy (I got a XL long) and I guess I could've ordered a Large long but didn't want it snug. I can have it taken in, no?

I've worked with both flight suits.... Tru-Spec is the winner hands down. It is simple to modify, and can be done within an hour or so All you need is a seem ripper to remove the pockets on the legs and arms, and to sew on two flaps to make the mandarin collar and to hide your skin behind it.

 

The RothCo had issues where the double stitching on the legs needed to be separated in order for the proper removal of the leg pockets. Not many people have access to the correct sewing machine to fix double stitched seams like that and it cost me an extra $15 at the seamstress to get it done.

 

The only other slight suit that is a super fast mod is the one from Speedway Motors. This only thing noted about it is that it is a very heavy weight suit. I bought one to use it for trooping in cold weather (such as the Fiesta Bowl Parade on New Years Day). This one has a few sew on patches on it that get removed and you are DONE as the mandarin collar is built in! You might want to install a small flap of fabric behind the collar to hide any skin if it shows.

I went with a Red Kap coverall in my business suit size. It only had 4 pockets to remove and has a hidden zipper front with a good collar. Plus, it's really inexpensive and good quality.
