RichArnold
Hi all. Just ordered myself a half decent military coverall off the 'bay, but it's stone coloured. What dye would you guys advise for a decent, long(ish) lasting finish? The most common one is probably going to be dylon or something similar, but there are just too many different sorts, and my brains given up trying to figure it out (why do I need to add salt with one, but not another??? Aaaargh!) Anyway, best get back to repairing my Rubies. Cheers, Rich.
TB4952
What's the undersuit for mate a TB or CB ????
RichArnold
oops. Yep, It's for a TB. Probably also worth mentioning I'm in the UK, so a UK based supplier or shop would be preferable. Waiting for the supplier to get back to me about what material it's made from, but a general purpose dye would do wouldn't it? Cheers again, Rich. Witness
I believe RIT is available in England.
jabbasdead
RIT doesn't work on all materials so check what the fabric is made out of before buying it. It does work great on cotton.
Dart
^Agreed.^ If it's a military flight suit and it's made of nomex or another synthetic, it'll be much more difficult to get the dye to set.
Junglie Scout
Rich, You will need an acid dye for this project (available of the UK bay). The military coveralls are made of polyester and cotton. The cotton element will dye but the polyester won't. I have a pair of these coveralls and had to boil dye them using an acid dye. The acid comes in the form of vinegar so its not that bad. You will have to cook it in a big pan at certain temps for a certain time. It does work quite nicely but takes some effort. As for the military coveralls; I'm military and they are a great fit and superbly light. Let us know how you get on!!!! Best of luck.......
