Drakon
Hey Bikers, I need a little help. How long should the straps be on the thighs? Also how are they supposed to be routed in the black plastic buckle? Would somebody mind posting pictures of their straps? I would really appreciate it. Thanks ahead of time!!!! TK6918
you talking about the black elastic strap on the thighs on the flightsuit? or the cotton straps that hold the hip armor?
Dart
There's two ways you can do the buckle - either run the strap through or cut pieces to make them functional. From what I understand, on screen they were just run through the buckles. If you take a look at the MoM pics, there should be some good shots of how things should be done. As for the length of the strap, you want to make sure that the boxes don't hang too low. Ideally, there should be no more than 2-3 inches from the bottom of the belt to the top of the box. Also, if you look at the photos of the straight on shots, you'll notice that the bottoms of the boxes don't go below the point where the codpiece tucks under. Also, the boxes should be on the sides of your leg so when you're fastening the loose ends to the back, make sure they come fairly close to the buckle (or whatever you're using to fasten your belt). The lengths are different for everyone, so play around with them until you get it looking right on you.
jabbasdead
What can be helpful is an extra set of hands. Put on your belt and keep pinning it until it looks correct, even used a stapler in a pinch, but there is not too much gap between the belt and the boxes. If not sure, pin and take a picture and show us. It is very common to do boxes too low the first time.
TK6918
I also recommend having at least one or two extra people helping you with getting it fitted right. I have pics from MC on how it should look for the assembly of it. pm me your email and ill send them to you.
TB-5027
Started with polyester webbing but I have redone my thigh straps with white cotton. So I adjusted the length on either sides of the black buckles to make it all look more balanced. It takes time because you need to look at how people do it with their own belts, also watch a lot of movie stills. That helped me a great deal. You can't see the sewing lines because I did it by hand and managed to hide the thread within the cotton fabric... Adjustable with velcro behind the front plate: I also added slack inside the thigh boxes in case I want to use a pin in there if need be...
