Flak Vest for Lancer?

I have a modded under suit with the Flak Vest sleeves stitched onto the under suit at the sholders. Looks and works great but will this keep me from Lancer approval?

The only reason I want to keep from adding another layer to my costume is that I live in a Tropic Zone where it NEVER gets below 60 degrees, maintains a high humity, and summer tempitures around a constant 98 degrees!

Thanx

If you are attempting to make a mock appearance of the vest using add ons to the undersuit, you need to incoporate a few things for the appearance value:

1. Part of vest that comes up from backplate around neck. Showing seam with velcro closure similar to cummerbund (this is why I made my vest/cummerbund a single piece, the movie ones were however two pieces)

2. Ribbed sleeve appearance up to shoulders and black vest running all around "arm hole"

In short, the arm holes and neck hole need to have the appearance of a vest in them. For all intent purpose, to duplicate the appearance, you may as well make a vest. I can understand your desire to make a more comfortable suit for warm humid weather, but Lancer specs will not be adjusted for comfort, they are intended to be for film accuracy. They may not be perfect, but if we can see the vest in the screen shorts, it needs to completely be part of the costume.

Lancer is not so much about the parts you are using, it's about the final total package look. Most people will find that doing things the same way others have done it, makes it easiest to get the final look right.

Hey Bryan, I feel for ya. I wore a regular scout in Hawaii weather and it felt great.

Now I am making my own suit, going Lancer with Las Vegas weather. Now I regret it. LOL

Hang in there bro!

Thanx guys!

The sleeves are done and good then! And actually ataching that mock piece to the back of my armor would be an easy mod! I know its all about how it looks, but as I look threw the Lancer pages I see everyone laying out theyre pieces individually... so I was a lil worried!

Knowing that you will be mocking up the vest, prepare to be asked for detail photos of the neckline and arms. Final appearance is what will matter.

Not a problem! Just like when I make mods to my truck and everyone wants to know "how did you do that!?"

One thing you can consider is to put some ventilation panels in your undersuit and in the hidden parts of your flak vest. That's what I did.

Just got some moisture-wicking mesh cloth from the fabric store, got my mom to sew two long panels in the front of my undersuit and one larger rectangular panel in the front of my flak vest (which is also sewn to my 'bund).

I've trooped in some decent heat and humidity and while I've still sweated, it was managable.

Also, make sure that you wear a good moisture-wicking balaclava and socks. Makes a huge difference. ;)
