ChickMacGyver Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Hi there, I am terribly sorry if someone has asked this question before, but I don't seem to be able to find the answer. I am wanting to sew my first cummerbund... I have sewn quite a few things before (including suits) so this looks easy enough. I have the 'duck cloth' that is required and I am trying to make a pattern for myself. However, I am unsure where the Cummerbund is meant to lay, ie does it sit on the hips, or below the hips, or on the waist line? And how far is it meant to go up? Under the breast line? Higher? I have been squinting at photos and it is hard to see where it actually goes because of the overlying armour. Thanks for your help. Smiles, Izzy

4505Marcel Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 When I ask for measurments I usually say the bund should start at the bottom of where the belt is, upto around nipple height (lower if the lady bits are gunna get in the way) to give enough to stay well under the chest plate. The cod piece ideally wants to stop just short of centre undernieth so it doesnt show from behind. Dont forget you need 7 verticle stich lines giving 6 raised areas on the front between the pouches and a 50mm black elastic as a thong strap I normally attach the thong elastic at the back between the seams and have the front of the thong poppered onto the cod undernieth as its then esy to dree yourself.

Thanks to everyone who has helped, I have a pattern done, including pouches and if I have a couple of evenings to myself I will get the CB done too. I will post a pic of it when I complete it. ChickMacGyver Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 After a bit of tinkering with the pattern, I have finally made my cummerbund. It is tailored to a more feminine figure with a short torso to result in a cummerbund that fits to my shape, but also doesn't have lots of excess material making me look like Michelin Man, and makes the cummerbund look more like the screen one on me. The taper along the upper waist will be hidden by the pouches. The bust area is hidden under the armour. The cummerbund is made of a double layer duck cotton and a dense iron-on wadding in between. I have already cut the fabric for the pouches and all I need to do now is sew them and attach them to the cummerbund.

Prior to sewing, I washed and pressed the duck cotton to get the starch out and allow the fabric to look like it has been worn at least once. It also means it takes the shape that I am trying to get it into better, which will be important with the pouches.

The additional material on top just sits under the lower half of my bust, so in a way it is a bit like a padded corset. It seems to help with keeping it in place a bit better than without anything like that. Smiles, Izzy

Do you have the seam visible for the flap velcro on the outside of the flap as seen in the pouches in the MotM exhibition? Or are you meant to have no visible velcro seams on the outside of the flap? What is more screen accurate? I have found a detailed imaged from the MotM exhibition, but haven't noticed it on any screen shots, but it would be a subtle feature... Smiles, Izzy

ChickMacGyver Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 After spending another evening with the sewing machine and iron, my cummerbund and pouches are complete. I think the trickiest thing about the pouches was joining the inner and outer parts, make sure they all aligned and looked neat. Here are the results... One pouch ready to be put together. On the Left you can see the upper flap, the middle it the outer pouch, and on the right is the inner pouch. The pouches and cummerbund completed. Phew! A close up of the pouch with the flap open to show to the detail.

Spider Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I love it. I have to upgrade EVERYTHING. Lost a bunch of weight, age I guess, so nothing fits or attaches the way it originally did. So instead of commissioninig another set, I might do it myself.
