SO when attaching the cotton cloth to the Nylon belt, is there a set distance between the main belt buckle and the "rivet" that mounts the webbing?

I think it's best that you fit your belt and get your clips installed on both sides before attaching. At least that's what worked for me. Once the fit was down, I installed the straps. Have someone help, pull them up and attach behind the belt to the edge of the buckle, or what ever you thinks looks good enough for you.

and had the hip boxes about , mid thigh....

Upper thigh is better, once you get the thigh box a nice short [approx 1.5" each way from the quick clip buckle] distance from the front belt section, then try to have the box horizontal to the floor whilst standing, get a mate to mark the position at the back.

There are no correct measurements but the worst position is hanging too low.

Yes this is an approximation, it depends on how big your hips are. Average size is about this, use screen caps to help yourself, pin the belt together and put it on to see how it hangs and try to centre the quik clips between the straps.

Dude,

Take a peak in the gallery - Biker Scout Reference Image Gallery, theres a sub-catagory Screen Caps.

In the BS gallery you'll find almost all the images you need.

When I did mine, I attached the ends so that the boxes were hanging no lower than the bottom of my cod (buttoned in place). I also made sure they were on the side of my leg, not closer to the front or the rear. I think I just measured the distance of the strapping between the front of the box and the buckle and then made it the same length on the back side.
