darren1970 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Hi gang. Right, I understand that the back armour should slightly overlap the chest armour at the sides to be movie accurate. I have a 44" chest ( a result of many years of Thai Boxing ). I can overlap the armour at the moment, but once the cummberbund goes under it, it's just gonna be too tight. Do I make small extension pieces ( which will mean a total repaint of the armour ) to acheive the overlap ( with the cummberbund ) or do I make a functional decision and have the chest/back butting together at the sides instead of overlapping? I'd be interested to hear what others have done? Cheers Darren
Jimah Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Just a thought... If you made extensions could you paint to match and weather the seam to save a total repaint?
Heatshock Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I think its the typical question of accuracy versus practicality the screen look is over-lapping of course, but that may not be possibelf or every1 dont think there are that many of us around yet to have a consensus opion - I'd say its ok But maybe shimming with a colour coded piece is also another good option Nate
darren1970 Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Actually James, that is a pretty good idea. I'm sure I could weather over the join in the shims to make it look 'one-piece'. Good call mate.
darren1970 Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 I've done the mod to the chest. I found that when the chest/back was sitting together one side of the chest was a touch shorter, so I decided just to extend that end. I cut and bent some HIPS to form a overlap for the extension. This was glued into place with CA glue. I cut and shaped more HIPS sheet to form the extension piece. This was then given a coat of bondo. Rubbed down and given some paint and weathering. Darren
Jimah Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Wouldn't know you had extended it... looks a treat! How is the fit now?
Fettski Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 WOW, thats what you have been up to, I thought I might get done before you for a sec there. Looks perfect. One of the great parts of this costume. The camo can blend alot.
darren1970 Posted February 13, 2011 Author Posted February 13, 2011 Wouldn't know you had extended it... looks a treat! How is the fit now? Much better. That extra 2" of plastic has made a big difference. Without the cummberbund it has a slight gap, so once the cummberbund is on it should fit a treat. Ski, your right mate. The camo really hides any mods
mrbungle Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 awesome job!! i am going to pin this if you do not mind.
