I do most of the work and then post at the end of the work day so these posts will come one after the other.....So her goes:

I will start with the belt as I see this as the most time consuming part of the build. Starting with my trusty Dremel tool and the diamond cut off wheel i will cut the slots for the belt webbing. This cut off wheel is great as it does not fill up with plastic as you work. I drill holes to start then cut the slot with the dremel:

The rough cuts:

The SC belt comes in three parts so I used rivets to assm it. I always use backing washers so the rivets wont pull out:

Slots cleaned up and belt riveted together:

OK...on to the chest and back plate/tank...I chose to glue the front and back together with ABS strips from the underside to keep it more solid:

Strap slots were to small so a little work with the dremel...wala perfect fit.

I was not happy with the fit on the tank so I sanded a curve into it for a tight fit.

Before:

after:

When I was happy with the fit I used pop rivets to attach it top and bottom and used 5 min epoxy to attach the detail parts:

And here is the finished chest and back with elastic and Velcro straps:

Looking good Tom, it appears you could shape the eye section a bit more on your helmet.

Give me more details of what should be done...

Thanks,

Good job so far, and moving a long nice and quickly. Just remember that if you plan on going Lancer, you will have to replace the nylon webbing for cotton webbing.

The eyes were all cut slightly differently on the originals, your eye area is too triangular and more could be cut out,

Photo1012.jpg

My older lid with the Star Wars in Concert lid, the eye area is cut out very large as seen here,

SmilingandLid.jpg

My new lid beside a KS like yours, see how there is a slight bulge around the eye area,

Photo1063.jpg

Another on my faceplates, cut out slightly less but still a more rounded shape,

Photo1166.jpg

You can see here from an angle just how far down to the base of the eye area that has been cut out, poor picture I know.

Refer to the excellent gallery pictures of the helmet for a better understanding or have a look at Star Wars Helmets, Jez's site, it has a few great pictures also, hope this helps.

The straps only or the belt also?

Thanks...

Both, as far as I know. I just played it safe and replaced both. The back, you can get a yard of cotton webbing for less then $3. I think I used Jontay.com for my webbing. Cheap, and ships quick.

This it what it says:

7. Belt straps used for drop boxes should be made with an off-white or natural white cotton webbing. Nylon webbing is not acceptable.

Cant find the specs for it but Belt seems to be nylon in all the lancer apps that I see.

About the straps. Don't know what to tell ya. Only thing is I guess they are assuming that if you're submitting for Lancer, then you should have followed rule 7 about the fabric for the straps. I just wanted piece of mind knowing that I at least had that right. Your build looks good though. Your GML should approve that easily.

Good job, I think you may need a better lens for your helmet, flash photos will show your eyes to the public, apart from that you should be a Pathfinder soon.
