Any suggestions on a type of material for these pads?

I found some slightly darker than my greebs, vinyl at the fabric store that I'm going to stitch the border and glue down. They should look slightly weathered and I will add a little more to enhance the effect

I have decided to avoid vinyl due to the breakdown, over time, of my friend's Darth Vader body suit. His was vinyl and he asked me to help sew it back together.

When I looked at it, the material had completely pulled apart from where it had been stitched, all down the stitch line, creating cracks in the vinyl along the stitch lines. There was no way to repair it.

If we are taking so much time, trouble, and expense for our costumes, we really don't want them to totally breakdown after only a couple of years.

If we are not doing fabric for the "stripes" on the gloves, then I will do a thin leather. Sewing in gloves really sucks though. And leather is especially hard.

PS with leather, you don't get second chances with the sewing. Any holes you make are permanent and may be seen after a mistake.

I hear ya about making these costumes to last.

Since this is my first costume EVER, Im sure I will either retire it for the TB, or continuously make improvements on it as I find better, harder to find, materials. Also finding better methods and weak spots along the way. My goal is to make the best, most accurate V 1.0 KT that I can and get my 501st ID then I will be official and have more access to other forums for even more info.

thank you. I realize the stitching is a little rough but I am hoping a little weathering and they should look fine for my first gloves.
