Fettski
its pretty thin corduroy so im looking for something to sew it to to give it a little more thickness.
8224
That will not look good, sorry. I don't think it will be approved. Stick to thin twill or matte tackle twill, it looks much better!
Fettski
I don't think that will have the horizontal lines from the reference pics. I'm at store, I will post the pic I'm using when I get home.
Fettski
this was my reference. I know mine is not as coarse, but i think it should be acceptable for my first cummer while i work out the rest of the details and look for a better one. Fettski
so, at the end of day 1 first attempt to find a material that looks the way i want, i have failed. unless i use some spray paint or dye it. remember this is a wip and i am testing methods and learning to sew at the same time, while working on my very first costume. fett-bobafett
Don't forget to WASH your fabric (and iron if necessary) before you cut and sew it! Cottons especially will shrink! I looked at the courderoys as well, but only found it in medium gray. I think they would work better inside-out, using a medium wale, to get a similar texture to the picture. I found cotton gauze in a light gray with a horizontal texture, so I'm trying that first. To give your material strength, try a "stiffener" (bad joke, I know, but can't remember the name for it), in the "fusible" section at the fabric store. Some are "fusible," i.e. you iron it on, others you have to sew to your fabric.
Fettski
thank you, I have given up on the corduroy. my method for giving it strength was to use it 2 ply with batting inside. i have taken a break while i get my pants right then gloves then back to the cummer. Fettski
Here is what I ended up with. I have a video on youtube that a little searching should find that shows the basic idea of how i made this.
