trilobite
OK, I think I've decided to order the KS kit but I've got some concerns. I'm a fairly crafty guy and normally I have no problems making/assembling things like this but I normally don't drop this kind of money on projects so I'm a little nervous. One mistake and it could be all over. So, does the KS kit come with any instructions? I've seen the tutorial in the forums and it's great and all, but how about detailed pictures on exactly where to cut/trim? Sure I'll have a general idea, but the difference between 1/8 inch here or there can be quite dramatic. I guess I worry about trimming too much off and then I'm SOL. Am I going to have to print out a whole bunch of reference pictures and wing it? I guess if nothing like that exists maybe I should consider taking some high res before and after shots of each piece for future reference. Just wondering how I should prepare myself for this thing...
Spectre5549
Is this the tutorial you were talking about? The one in the archives? KS Helmet (ABS), Tutorial on how to assemble it from kit form! I think it's the same tutorial that the kit will link to, but it was detailed enough for me to make my helmet. Just make sure to pay attention to the curve on the visor where it meets the dome, back piece where it meets the dome, and be careful with the lens and ear holes. I had a nasty xacto knife slip on the right of the lens, and there's a little random gouge to the right of the lens now. Don't worry about making too many mistakes, I have had too many slips of the knife and file so that "putting your sweat and blood into it" became quite literal. Measuring twice, cutting once, test fit, repeat worked very well for me. I started trimming the dome first, to get used to how the knife interacts with the ABS, and because it will later get covered up by the faceplate and back of the helmet. I like your idea of having reference pictures printed out, I think I should have done the same when trimming; I would not have been stuck inside trimming and having plastic shavings fall into the keyboard, I say go print your pics! and take pictures of your own and share them on here! Good luck and have fun!!
trilobite
Is this the tutorial you were talking about? The one in the archives? KS Helmet (ABS), Tutorial on how to assemble it from kit form! Yep, that's the one! It seems very thorough, but sometimes I'm not entirely comfortable unless a tutorial can hold my hand through the whole thing... I'm sure I can do it, but it'll keep me nervous until the end. Thanks for the encouragement and the tips. I think KS is the way to go for me. I was going to wait for Jeff at SC to remodel their bucket but I've become too impatient after putting my armor together. I hear you about the blood, sweat and tears. While putting my SC armor together my exacto slipped and stuck me under my fingernail. That sucked. I usually expect to get hurt a few times doing these things. I'm already kinda accident prone. Guest carves
I highly recomend you buy the helmet NOT as a kit, but instead a finish one especially with KS helmet. Yeah, you maybe had to pay more, but it gives you piece of mind. Just my 2 cents.
Guest NAZGÛL
I would definately do it as a kit! Im into building stuff, and Id love the lid more, knowing that it was me that built it. Im also a nitpicker and usually end upp happier with doing it by myself.

It may save my nerves to have it assembled for me, but I love projects and get a sense of satisfaction at doing as much as I can myself. I'm doing the cumberbund, pouches, flak vest, boots, and modding the flight suit myself. I had intended on making the hard armor myself and even built a rather nice vacuum-form machine but the mold making process takes too much time. I want to jump into this right away. Maybe in the future I'll make some Fett armor or something.

Nothing better than making something with your very own hands and then proudly displaying it to the world Good luck with your build, and try to do it with minimal blood, yes? That exacto knife under the nail sounds downright horrible!
Guest Vepariga
Im currently finishing off my KS kit, The gluing of the pieces can be abit cumbersome lol but once you get it its all good. The kit doesn't come with instructions but I just used the tutorial on here for reference, its pretty straight forward when you see the pieces. Objetivotuning
Kit form maybe takes a lot of work, but pays off, mine really looks good with MC snout and decals.
