Chex
Was just wondering if anyone has gotten any bad pulls, or bad trims on this. So far everything has been great. Then I go to attach the tank using the method that Witness used. It worked like a charm, though for the life of me I could not get the tank to set on there totally centered. Upon looking further, I noticed the bottom right of the back plate is trimmed or formed about 1/2 inch shorter then the left. Also, the piece that goes over the right shoulder is cut shorter. Here are some pics. I e-mailed SC asking him about it, just thought I'd ask you all here what you thought, and if it's an easy fix to make it look good...or normal. StudioCreations
For the shoulder tabs being longer, press the chest and back plate to your body, mark where any overlap occurs and "trim to fit" keeping in mind where you want the front and back to meet at for the seamtape. I need to run home after work and look at a backplate. Right off the top of my head I know that the bevelled edge in question has a slight twist to it and we trim the bottom edge to make the back lay flat on the wearer. The distance on the left and right in your photos is pretty glaring, but I think we are talking 1/4 of an inch. I am not sure if trimming 1/4 inch off the inner curve of the left side will fix things, or make them worse. Give me a couple hours to get home and check. How does that back plate look when standing up right? Can you see the differences of the two lengths along that bottom edge? -Jeff
Chex
Just checked and yeah a 1/4" might work, but it's really not that bad. I thought the shoulder tabs would be too short as well, but with another set of hands helping, they actually don't seem too bad either. Let me play with it a little more and see how things work out, but let me know what you come up with as well. Also, any good tips on fabric and how to go about covering up the joints when I have the shoulder tabs done? Thanks Jeff, already you've helped by pointing small things out that I didn't notice. Witness
Jeff's customer service is always great. He'll sort you out I'm sure. As for the cloth covering... http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=6891
StudioCreations
Looking at the backs I have cut and on hand right now. Our mold trim lines do run the left curve in a little too tight. I think just starting at the center of the back and trimming the inner left curve a little wider (1/4 inch), then you should be able to fix the curve line a little more. Stop the trim at the corner edge that is already cut into the part. No need to trim a 1/4 inch in that corner, that corner is correct. The image below shows what I am talking about, adjust your cut line as need be. I drew this blue line really quick so it's a little jagged. We'll adjust the trim line in our plug mold this weekend. Good eye, thanks for pointing it out. -Jeff
Chex
I'll try that this weekend, and thanks Dave for the link, and anytime, Jeff.
Wickedfluxx
Great topic, I too am working on my SC armor and didn't notice this, so thanks for the information all! In regards to the duck cloth pieces, I didn't notice this in the Lancer costume specifications, but thought I would ask what the rules were around those. Are they considered against Lancer specs? Are they a requirement? I love the idea and want to incorporate into my own costume, but would like to know how they are viewed.
Witness
Theyt are a good edition to clean up the joint. The screen used suits has some sort of tape or cloth wrap which can be seen on the MOM costume. Putting this on finishes it nicely and will not prevent you from getting Lancer. Lancers are encouraged to have this finishing touch. It is not listed specifically, but it is considered part of the finish of the armor. Wickedfluxx
Perfect, I'll look to get some duck cloth/canvas to start working on those. Thanks for the clarification Dave!
4505Marcel
When I saw this thread title I thought wow ive never heard this from SC armour, and looking at the picks really the thread should be re-named as to not give SC a bad name. personally I feel maybe the thread title is a little harsh for something so simple to fix and obviously not a bad pull at all bro. Theres nothing more than 5 minutes work there, and to be honest they could be trimmed any way to suit you body shape better. You should see some of the kits ive built over the years, SC scout still to date is one of the only kits that you can buy and more or less put on out of the box. Not trying to upset anyone or have a go, so please dont think I am. But the thread title doesnt fit the thread contents one bit
Chex
Well, being a boob to armor building how am I supposed to know what's a bad pull, bad mold, or just plain bad? Yes, it's an easy fix, and Jeff helped me out with that. As for the thread title, I thought it might be a bad pull, so I titled it that way. So yes, the title did fit the thread in the beginning. Jeff knows I'm not out there to flame him or make him look bad. Armor makers can do bad pulls. Doesn't mean that their armor is garbage though. I understand that this is the season where they get busy, and some things can be rushed. But hey, Jeff e-mailed me and gave me good pointers, and I pointed out a flaw that he will fix so others don't have the problem I had. So all in all, it worked out for everyone. And I know you're not trying to upset anyone, or me...but you have, and I hate you. I kid, I kid!!! NO worries bro, if it's one thing I've learned here is that the 501st is like one big disfunctional happy family, and I wouldn't have it any other way. And for Scouts, it just seems like Scouts are a more tight knit group anyways, which other then my love for them, is what made me want to do one. Everyone here have been nothing less then great, not just to me, but to everyone. But yes, the title was right to begin with, but is no longer. As I can not change it, maybe Mod or Admin can, or even close the thread since the problem has been solved?
StudioCreations
The thread topic is a little harsh, but gosh darn it, if these prop makers would spend a little more time looking at their molds and fixing them in a timely manner, then maybe threads like this would not crop up. I blame the video game series: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (1 and 2) on my current costuming slackness.
Chex
Ya'll are just going to make me feel bad now So anyone reading this. SC makes nice armor. I would buy from him again in a heart beat, and most likely will when I'm ready to go black.

Guest Dark Jedi
Mine had it as well and if it wasn't for Mike speaking out I probably wouldn't have noticed it until it was too late. Thanks to Jeff for the diagram, now I know that to do.
