Prophet106
Looking at one of the screen-caps showing a close-up of the boots it looks like they have used an insert to keep the boot-leg upright ? Looks almost like a shin-pad shape insert ? Does anybody know anything about this ?
TB-7076
I'm not sure if I understood correctly but I doubt there is anything else besides the material used to produce the chaps. Those folds might be mistaken as such but are really just folds. My boots behave the same way without anything but proper bootleg lining. If you meant lineing, I beg your pardon. Look here (the lineing is the brownish leather): And this is how it behaves kneeling: It almost has the same feeling as the originals (except for the wrong lining at the toe tip :s)
Prophet106
That's not really what i meant. If you look at the first picture i posted you can see a definate 'shape' underneath the fabric of the shin of the boot. It looks like they have used a football (soccer for you yanks ) shin-pad (or something similar) underneath to help the boot keep its shape/stand up straight. of course i could be wrong
TB-7076
This is my explanation for it. Compare all shots available of the boots and concentrate on the wrinkles of the boots. I think it's obvious there was nothing solid within the bootlegs except leather and maybe lining in case they spend the time and efforts. Looking at most self made scout boots which lack lining it might be they also went that route as those on screen are a better fit than most replicas used here. I think the drastic shape drawn by the reflection is leading to the interpretation. If you look at the whole scene and all frames you notice that the way the boots behave doesn't support your theory - at least I'm convinced there is nothing installed underneath the leather though it is not completely irrational that stuntmen might have used shin guards during the stunt scenes. But I doubt they're part of the design. Here is the whole scene as an animation: And a further comparison of the single scenes and another set of pictures form the original boot:
