The Making of a New TB lid

Recommended Posts

Latest update, I am going to be making a few kits hopefully this week, if the 2mm ABS pinseal arrives.

Is there anything you guys would need to see incorporated into the helmet kit. I am planning on an accurate decal set, if anybody knows where I can get accurate 3M Speedglas bolts or something similar I would be grateful.

From what I've read, 3M changed the outside "bolt" color to black. I have three extra sets of the grey bolts, without headband, however.

Yes I posted this up somewhere, the headbands are still the same, your grey bolts seem to be getting very rare.

I have made the visor bolt holes to allow a 3M bolt to fit flush. the new type would work as well.

WOW!!! Just amazing there LW! I'd love to be put on a list for interest in these. The chin strap cup just made my day, the whole deal looks awesome. Are you currently doing any of these kits and how much of a line do you have? Should I send a PM for more details? Thanks, I am glad to have found this thread.

Thanks for all the encouragment and costructive comments guys, this thread has gone on forever!

The lid is now of a good enough quality to offer, the main problem is the assembly , as the originals seemed to have as well judging by the different versions still available to study.

John,

Helmet looks awesome :)

Just wondering, as their is no other TB helmet out their in the prop community built the same as a original helmet

and yours being the first replica helmet so close to the original helmet - what's your thoughts on how strong is the helmet is once glued together?

also still interested in a kit BTW

It is very strong, the only incident was a punch to the back of my head whilst wearing my second version, a small crack in the filler was all that happened, the glued parts were still solid.

Using ABS glue is the key I think as it welds the two parts together.

thanks for the reply John, I was wondering how strong the original helmets where as the prop store helmet

has a cracked lens and no damage to the lid - which made me think that the helmets where a bit flexiable
