Hey Scouts,

I ordered a hollow snout plate from MC with the intent of internalizing the audio system for my helmet. I have the sound board/driver and the mic, but I do not have a suitable speaker for the aerator. I've seen limited runs offering these kinds of speakers here in the past, but don't see any that look to be active. I figure I'll look on the open market, but I was hoping to get some recommendations for sizes/makes/brands with which anyone here has had any luck.

Thanks,

Jim

I went down this path. I had in mind that my bucket should be self contained.........

After messing around with a few ideas, and with the knowledge of small speakers that I gained over in Saberland, I opted for the Aker voice amp set up. The hollow snout would give you better volume for resonance but I am not sure how that would play out in terms of volume without experimenting. It would be cool to see that played out.

I was worried about volume level (without distortion) and how a speaker that small would work. I have been reading about the self contained speakers over at FISD (Stormtrooper detachment) and I am not convinced that they would be the best set up. Sure that would be cool to have, but in my mind the function and the volume of the Aker wins out. Some guys (TKs) make the small speakers work...... I am not sure how well this would work for a TB sized speaker.

To answer your question, check the FISD...I can't find the link for the thread, but I seem to remember discussion of speakers over there.

Let us know what you find out.

yea, i agree. I had Mic tip speakers in my TK for a little bit. it was cool, but at cons, no one could hear me. I ended up with the Aker amp as well. it is much louder and clearer. the "contained" systems just arent loud enough. None of the setups and experiments i tried worked out for the small size speakers to make them loud enough.

I've heard that Aker is the best, but have ordered a hollow snout from MC as well to fit a mini speaker. Thought it would be interesting to give it a try and figured I could always default back to Aker should I desire.

As I said, I would love to find out how well that works with the one speaker.

As for the Aker.....I can't say enough good about it. You can also rig it up to play a sound loop (like is available on the legion board) in addition to your voice for "Ambiance"....it really gives a good impression of radio traffic........

I just took another look at a good helmet speaker tutorial over on FISD. As most have pointed out, I'd have to agree that I probably won't get the desired volume out of a single tiny aerator speaker. If I can correctly replicate the mod on FISD, I might have better luck mounting a larger speaker in a resonating chamber just behind the aerator. I'll post on my progress as soon as I have something to report...

I just got an Acker, and have been sitting here wondering where the best place to mount it. Should I just wear it around my neck?

I put my speaker in my left pouch. I sewed a little loop inside and clipped 'er in. Works like a charm. Also cut a small hole in the back of the pouch so I could route my headset cable into the pouch unseen.
