Tank and Back Chest Question

Two questions:

 

1.) When I attached the tank topper to the tank, I went inside the tank to attach the rivet with the washer on top (instead of going on the outside with the rivet and washer). It looked closer to the screen version, but I wanted to be sure should I try for Lancer status.

 

2.) When attaching the tank to the back chest plate, are there any gotchas that I should be aware of? I am using SC armor and as far as I know there needs to be a gap shown (i.e. show that it is actually two pieces) with a rivet on the bottom only (which would mean epoxy for the to hold the top of the tank down to the back chest plate). Are there any dimensions to follow here or is it pretty straight-forward?

I cut the backplate to make an opening where the tank goes and folded a tonsil shaped piece (for lack of a better description, the hole looked like a mouth with a tonsil hanging) up to meet the top of the tank so i could use a single rivet through the tank topper greeble. Maybe I should just take a picture when I get home and post it here

Interesting idea and one that I had not considered, I would love to see a picture of the design there. It sure would beat having to mess around with epoxy. What about the gap itself from the tank to the back chest plate? Are there Lancer specs for that?

There are no specs for the gap. As there are Lancers who have SC (some gap) and Lancers who MC (no gap), I would suspect that is not overly an issue. we expect some gap, however with the SC the gap does not leave large openings, just an apparent uneven fit around the tank to the backplate on the sides. Again, more pictures when I get home

The back plate was cut out in the shape shown by the dashes. The tab was heated with a heat gun and folded up to fit in place to hold the tank. A single rivet was used through the tank greeble to affix the greeble to the tank and the tank to the backplate. A second rivet was added at the bottom of the tank as well.

Nice solution to the single rivet issue.

 

I do plan on adding extra height to our "riser plate" to allow for an easier riveting for the Elites. Right now the mods are scheduled for November/December. Doesn't help the fans in the meantime, but it is something that I am aware of. I wonder if I can create a makeshift wooden plate solution in the meantime? Just thought of that... hmmmm.

Definitely a neat take on attaching the tank, unfortunately I think it's beyond my abilities at this point. I'll probably go epoxy for the top and 1/2" grip for the rivet on the bottom with dual washers.
