Mosi's WIP

Recommended Posts

You know him, you love him, it's MrBungles armor!

I have sort of been taking some pics along the way so I figured I should start a thread of the progress.

If you look really close, you can see where he etched "recasters suck" into the goggle area

setting up the biceps "seamless" style.. I used strips of ABS instead of the for sale signs.

next coat...... chrome for the cool weathering look.

more

So I skipped some pics.... I laid some silicone (the clear type you seal windows with) on some spots over the chrome, then sprayed another layer of dark primer on top... then laid some more silicone on the black.

Today, I painted the base coat and will probably put one more layer down tomorrow. You can see the silicone in the pics... the black colored blotches are covering the last primer layer, and the green blotches are where the chrome will show through.

The paint is a spot on match with MrBungles sample he sent me and is found at Home Depot ... Behr premium plus ultra "organic field" code UL200-15 .. about $13 for a quart

looking good, did you maks the chrome off so it would show though??

oh yeah ,i am going to send you the rest of the color samples this week.

The globs are where the silicone sealer was used. I couldn't find the liquid latex you used so I went with the silicone. It peels off very easily and will look good when removed.

Gloves

Boots

boot1.jpg

After fitting up the shin armor, the zippers on the boots are going to be my savior since you have to hike the shin armor up to your knees to get your boots on. When you do this, your can't exactly bend your knee to tie boots very well so just a quick zip and I'm G2G.

Nice progress....What materials did you use to make the gloves? I have the same boots and have to do the same process with hiking the chin armor up to the knees...keep the pis coming!

I had someone make the gloves... they are soft cowhide with grey padded leather on top of the hand, and a grey leather strip sewn on the wrist.

I Love the visor MB! So you guys use a "house" paint for the armor? I used to work in the paint department at the big orange box and surprised to hear you using it. Is it the paint that can be used for vinyl siding or mobile homes? and I am seriously following this thread too closly :P .

More progress. Remember... the globs here and there are where the silicone was applied so it kind of looks like crap right now until I remove them. I plan to wait until I do the cammo job to remove the silicone so I don't have to worry about painting around it. There are a couple of small spots here and there that I did remove the silicone just to make sure it looks good, which it does.

knee armor ... I decided to go with snaps on both sides

glueing in the knee pads to the shoulder bells, and the bungee straps to the elbow armor

I decided to try to get most of the little stuff out of the way while I wait for MB to get me the cammo paint chips. I also have a bunch of rare earth magnets on the way that I plan on using here and there.

nice.

your buckles for the straps on the boots need to be black and the long end pouches need to be on both sides of your back horizonal pouches.

keep up the good work.

i posted a scan of the paint colors in the accurate camo thread.

Yeah... I know about the buckle color, I just figured since I was shooting a coat of primer on the belt, I may as well get a base coat on the buckles before I paint them black.

I put my back pouches a bit off because there really isn't a spot for them when it's laid out flat. But the location has been noted.

Sewed the accurate front pouches myself... what a PITA!

I need to get a few more spots of cammo done before I move on to other pieces. I just want to make sure it looks good before I proceed.

Getting closer to the finished product... I couldn't stand it any more and had to pull up some of the latex to expose the chrome and primer. I am like a kid at Christmas pulling it off :P

dye job... I'm trying to figure out if I want to put it through a bit more or not... and yes, I know that the pants are a bit lighter. The shirt was brand new so there is a bit of color variation.

attaching magnets for the toe armor

So more much more to do!

Looking good! I am thinking of doing the same thing ...boot & magnets!

The magnets don't work since the boots flex too much. The toe armor snaps from the magnets jumping back into place with every step... pretty loud and annoying. I rigged a different system that works great and is MUCH quieter. I will post pics soon... I'm frantically trying to get this puppy ready for a troop on Saturday, and I just might make it!

Here is how I did my toe armor.... I hot glued some foam blocks to the toe, then hot glued some velcro to the top. This allows the armor to literally float on top of the boot. It doesn't make any velcro tearing noise when walking OR any clickitty-clack sounds.

toe1.jpg

attached to the boot.... notice all of the clearance for the shin armor so it doesn't rub much.

toe2.jpg

Pretty close to being done with the lid. Just a tad more weathering, stickers, and goggle.... should be tomorrow!

I think it's going to be done for the troop on Saturday! WOOT!

cool. the boots are looking good. i would paint the snout of the helmet flat black and have next to no silver showing through.

Fixed... everything is weathered up and clear coated. That clear coat sure wreaks havoc on the shiny chrome! It started to get gummy and lost most of it's shine. Oh well.

I just have to attach the drop box leather strips and sew the riding patch tomorrow..... other than that, it's all done!
