Guest Skupilkinson
Hey guys, I'm studying up so I can make a start on my KST soft parts. I'm looking at my reference and it seems that the riding patches on the inner thighs are more a mocha color than grey?? See the attached pic: It seems the base color is closer to a brown/grey like mocha?? Defenitely leather judging by that texture? I've found some grey leather on flea bay but they're either too dark or too light? I've found suede that matches this pic fairly well but it NOT leather! LOL! So I'm thinking of going for this: It's a shade light I know but I can darken it and then weather it?? What do you guys think?? I appreciate any feedback and opinions. Lonescout
Mocha, yes! You may be able to dye the leather/suade!
Guest Skupilkinson
I opted for a leather. Picture attched in my last post. I got a leather dye on it's way, the colour was Taupe/Otter which seemed close. It's supposed to work on leather AND faux leather so hopefully I'll be able to find out in a few days. Guest Skupilkinson
Ok, my supplies arrived yesterday for my patches. I've done a few tests, I cut for swatches and applied 1 coat to one, 2 coats to another and 3 coats to another. The 4th swatch I left undyed. I even took two sets of pics, with flash and without flash. Looking at these I'm thinking no3 works best?? None have been weathered at all yet. I'm thinking a fine wash of black to bring out the leather grain along with some green weathering and it should look spot on?? What do you guys think??? Oh, incase you guys wanted to go the same route as I did at all? Here's the leather dye you want. It works on synthetic leather too but not on suede!! tk 7261
nice work dude. had bought some fake vinyl leather but its much too stiff to sew onto pants. should i use some left over grey cloth from my cummerbund or paint some leather from the thrift store. Guest Skupilkinson
Thanks. I got my leather(vinyl) from Ebay. It cost something like 4pounds/$8.00 give or take and is enough for two sets of patches. I'm gonna help Heatshock with his. So I'd say it's pretty cheap really. It's nice and flexible too and took the dye better than I'd hoped. Should you use cloth? I dunno bro? For mine I'd only use leather as I'd want to get it as close to the reference as I can but others have used cloth right?? Thing is with KST's is that a lot of things are still debatable so my understanding is that the tolerances are pretty slack for certain parts of the costume?
